modern suiting trends | the skirt suit

Skirt suits aren’t new. They’ve been around since the 19th century, when women wore tailored jackets with long skirts for riding and archery, and we still see equestrian inspired details in the hottest suiting trends of today.

All that to say, skirt suits been a preppy wardrobe staple that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and sure to continue as one of the most popular fashion trends season after season.

However with time, trends do evolve as the next generation takes their stab at the classics. If you’re looking for your next skirt suit that embodies the new era of preppy style, here’s what you should look for.

Our skirts are getting shorter

Say hello to a little leg as our bottom coordinates cut off a few inches in thigh grazing minis this season. Midis may be in when you’re rocking your 90’s trends, but when it comes to suiting this FW21-22, prepare to bare some skin. The mini oozes feminine poise Jackie O’ style (ok maybe even a little shorter). But don’t get to caught up measuring your hemline. Skirt length dramatically emphasis your stems, so consider a length that’s most flattering for your body type.

The cropped jacket

Nylon names the cropped suit the #1 suiting trend of the season. If you’re not quite comfortable showing off all that leg, prepare to take those inches off elsewhere. The cropped jacket has been dominating the fashion runways with luxury designers like Proenza and Jacquemus all jumping on board. The cropped jacket can be worn solo and sexy bearing your midriff for evening wear, or layered over blouses and tees for everyday wear.

Who’s wearing it

Runways aside, who’s wearing this season’s hottest skirt suiting trend? Working in fashion and managing a fashion blog – I’ll tell you know it’s just about everyone. For those of you who aren’t ready to go mini, Hailey Beiber rocked a midi-length skirt suit set at the Elle Women in Hollywood Party. Léa Seydoux went preppy at Paris Fashion Week in plaid. Bella Hadiid looks chic in a skirt suit with a tucked tee. And Instagram bloggers slay with the preppy and minimalist trends.

How to style your skirt suit

For the perfect paring, opt for the urban utility vibe by pairing your skirt suit with double gore Chelsea boots, or even better, some knee high rubberized utility boots. Complete your utilitarian chic ensemble with a trench or teddy coat like this one from Unreal Fur for chilly days. Looking for something less bold? Go 90’s prep and layer your skirt suit with a sweater vest and throw on some platform pumps or lace-up booties.

Prefer more gender neutral, boss-mode combos? Ditch the crop blazer for a boxy oversized blazer for a look that says, I’m on fashion, but I don’t care.

Skirt suits are a fashion trend here to say, and can be an investment piece if you decide to splurge this season. If you’re trying to manage a more minimal capsule wardrobe, invest in a skirt suit with versatile pieces you can wear together or separate. Choose basic neutrals that won’t go out of style, and you can wear your skirt suit for years to come.

Trouble picking your new basics? Shop for some steals if you feel like splurging on this mega FW21-22 trend. The big material trends here are plaid for preppy, monochrome for minimalist style, and leather on leather for our fashion risk takers.

the 8 fall must-haves to freshen up the minimalist’s wardrobe

Fall is steadily underway, and if you haven’t shopped for your key pieces for the season yet, get ready for these to be your new everyday essentials that you’ll be able to continue wearing through the cold winter months and into early spring.

If you’re trying to maintain a more minimalist capsule wardrobe (like myself), bear in mind you don’t need to adopt every trend, but rather, should select the pieces you know you’ll be able to integrate into multiple looks throughout the season and beyond.

These pieces are all fresh and modern, yet versatile and timeless classics, so with a little creativity you should be able to remix them with your current wardrobe into countless outfits you’ll be able to wear for months to come.

The chunky loafer

Thanks to the return of 90’s preppy fashion trends, the loafer is back in a big way. Wear them with all of your preppy looks from suiting to skirts and denim. What to look for: sleek minimalist uppers or uppers with subtle details like cozy shearling or ornamentals. The important part here, is that thick chunky sole.

The sweater vest

Perfectly paired with your chunky loafers, the 90’s has brought the return of another mega trend this season – the sweater vest. Pretty much any style goes, from preppy plaid to cozy cottage prints and oversized minimalist cable knits. Whatever your vibe, this is a layer you’re not going to want to miss. If you can’t quite nail down your style, check out Refinery29’s sweater vest shopping list for a variety of looks no matter your style

The oversized puffer coat

Layer it over your sweater vest, sweat suit, tailored suiting and athleisure wear – the puffer coat is in. Specifically in an oversized fit with a loose, wide bottom that allows for layering over even the thickest knitwear. The style is more European prep, and pairs well with knee-high riding boots and utility style. But truthfully works well over anything, making it a super versatile piece for FW21 and beyond.

image cred: @ameliakay__

Knee-high boots

Speaking of knee high boots, this is another trend you’re going to want to get your hands on. While the movement is largely rooted in utility and urban prep style with heavy duty rubber lug soles, you can also rock a stiletto if you’re more of a dress girl.

A geometric handbag

If you want to instantly modernize your look, take your pick from the market’s ample selection of geometric inspired bags. From 90’s banana shoulder bags to half circles and everything in between, the shape is what should stand out. Let it be the finishing statement to tastefully take even the most basic looks up a notch. This scrunch bag is my newest of the season, just in, courtesy of Bob Ore.

Chunky chain jewelry

While we’re talking about accessories, chunky chains are in, and it’s another way to instantly elevate your basic minimalist outfits. The bigger the links, the better. And feel free to stack your favorites. Gold and silver are both right depending on your look. Match them up with suiting, oversized tees and basic knits to add a little fashion statement to your outfit.

Wide leg trousers

We all want to be comfy, but we still want to look tailored and professional. Good news, wide leg trousers are in. Look for sophisticated details like pleating, or updated twists like the front slit. You can wear this minimal essential piece casual with tees and crewnecks or tailored for work in a coordinating oversize blazer. I’ve snagged a couple of my favorites from luxury designers like Anne Fontaine who do work wear classics well. For me, this is an investment piece as a working professional, that I’ll be able to wear years to come. You can check out my Anne Fontaine work wear shortlist that also includes some tailored blazers and white blouses.

The cardigan

If you’re sill rocking’ mom jeans, the cardigan is your new must-have sweater of the season. This nostalgic 90’s mom look is cozy, and an easy layering piece for fall winter looks. Thankfully, it’s also a silhouette that’s perfectly timeless, so you can snag one or two without feeling guilty for jumping on the fast fashion wagon. I still wear (and am currently wearing) some of my favorite cardigans from season’s past from State Cashmere.

I haven’t included blazers on this list, because if you’ve been wearing minimalist style, you should have a few favorite blazers in your wardrobe already from season’s past. But if not, consider it a “bonus” mention staple that you’re going to want to be cycling through your fall and winter looks.

That wraps up this season’s minimalist must-haves. If you want to get the most out of your new purchases, remember to consider your price per wear.

If you feel like an item may be on the trendy side for your wardrobe, opt for a fashion steal. If it’s something you know will play in important part in your wardrobe for months or years to come, try investing in higher quality basics to bolster your core wardrobe. Remember, true fashion minimalism is about investing in the pieces you wear on a daily basis. If you shop wisely, you’ll never regret spending that extra cash on new jeans you wear everyday with the perfect fit… vs. that $80 trendy sweater you wore once and don’t care to ever wear again.

I’m Ditching My Old Sweats for Los Angeles Apparel. Here’s the Review.

Shopping LA brands? Here’s a Los Angeles Apparel review of quality, style and materials.

November has arrived, and with it that chill that seeps into your bones and steals away every semblance of summer’s past comforts. Thankfully, I’ve found my new live-in uniform thanks to Los Angeles Apparel.

I’ve spent more than I care to admit on the hunt for the perfect sweatpants – all in vain.

The material is always wrong, scratchy or too thin. Or the elastic so tight my feet loose feeling within moments. The fit’s not right, they collect lint like cheap velvet.

I’ve even made the investment on some luxury brand sweatshirts on my quest – to find that my oversize sweatshirt was actually so heavy (and not soft) that my shoulders were ablaze by the end of the day. I’ve also tried Amazon Basics, some pop-culture retail boutiques, you name it.

When Los Angeles Apparel reached out and offered me some pieces from their collection, my past experience made me a sceptic – to say the least. However with no obligations asked, I decided to give them a try.

Los Angeles Apparel Review: I can’t tell you how happy I am to have found these sweats.

A thick, fleecy inside and soft marl knit outside met my fingertips upon opening the package – my heart slowed slightly as I embraced what would be this season’s winter survival ensemble. When you think plushy soft, thick sweats, the cotton fleece collection is the epitome of perfection.

Los Angeles Apparel Material Review

Here’s what to love about the cotton fleece:

  • The knit is thick – aka super warm and cozy
  • They’re super soft, possibly the softest sweats I’ve felt
  • They don’t show a lot of lint (I have a dog, so this is important)
  • The elastic has a relaxed fit at the waist, ankles and wrists
  • They’re comfy enough to sleep in, but cute enough to wear out

My selects: the Cotton Fleece High Waist Sweatpants and Half Zip Cropped Pullover. Both in heather natural, I’ve now worn them together as a coordinating set, and as separates. In fact, I’ve worn them pretty much on repeat minus my wash cycles for the past few weeks since they’ve arrived.

They’re the perfect loungewear set that I swap into after returning home after work, and also cute enough to wear out to run errands or piece together with denim or leather to make them more “street wear” acceptable.

I also gave the garment dye fleece sweat pant a try. The material has a totally different feel, but has a lot to love in its own way. My select: the Unisex Garment Dye Heavy Fleece Sweatpant.

The difference is a bit hard to explain, but bare with me as I give it a try. The outside material has more of a “smooth” texture vs. soft, though – to be fair it is still soft in its own way. It feels a bit heavier, and the inside lining is less “fuzzy” and a little thicker – almost the texture of a soft terry cloth.

Here’s what to love about the garment dye heavy fleece:

  • The knit is thick and heavy, super warm with a durable feel
  • They’re soft, but not quite as soft as the cotton fleece
  • They literally don’t collect lint (the slightly smoother surface is that kind of fabric where the pup’s stray hairs literally just brush off)
  • They have a bit more structure which makes them even more wearable out, but also great to lounge at home
  • There are a lot of colors to choose from

Great news, you can find both materials on several different silhouettes including oversize crewneck sweatshirts, sweat shorts and hoodies for men and women.

Los Angeles Apparel Review Summary

I already have a few more pieces on my wishlist, and will probably go ahead and add those to my wardrobe before long. In the meantime, I’m ditching my old sweats for Los Angeles Apparel.

Oh and by the way, they’re also super affordable, so you don’t have to break the bank to be comfy after all. (I guess better to learn that now than never). Desperate as I was to find the perfect sweatpants? Check them out. I promise, you won’t regret it.

self-care tips for career professionals

As we move into the final stretch of 2021, don’t overlook the importance of self-care and the beauty of taking a moment for yourself to just enjoy the silence. It is quite easy to get caught up in the feeling of needing to jump at a moment’s notice, running the hamster wheel of a 9 – 5, and balancing everything else we have on our plates. It’s time for the career driven professionals, and budding entrepreneurs out there to reflect on how much time in the day is truly spent on me time.

Everyone needs a break now and then to dream, to reflect, to take care.

Let’s remember to fight back and prevent potential burnout. Challenge yourself to incorporate these empowering practices into your busy schedule and prioritize your well-being plus recharge.

image cred: PEXELS

#1 Set Boundaries

As a young professional it can be easy to become too wrapped up in work matters. It’s important that you start setting some boundaries for yourself. Remember you can only get so much done at once.

To start, set reasonable expectations for yourself, and create a doable check list of priorities to accomplish for the day.

Once you’ve got that in place you can work in sprints to accomplish the tasks at hand. Using tools like a pomodoro timer can help you divide and conquer work in set periods of time. You can even check out time management tips to get the most out of one hour. No matter how you decide to tackle your priorities, stick to working only within your set hours. If you’re not careful, you can find yourself working well past clocking out time

In order to help out, set up a dedicated work space to prevent yourself from going outside your working hours. Even if you live in a studio, you can pick yourself up an apartment size desk, put it in a corner, and separate it off from your living space with a cute curtain. This way you can mentally separate yourself from your career at the end of the day.

Creating the separation of work from home is key for prioritizing your mental health.

image cred: PEXELS

#2 Reflect Inward

Embracing mindfulness and reflecting inward is a great way to practice gratitude and stay positive. Think about all the great things you have in your life and what there is to be thankful for. Channeling positive energy will keep you in good spirits and prevent you from getting sucked into the negativity. However, it is healthy to think about your current position in life by asking some questions to keep yourself in check and on track. Frame your thoughts and focus on these questions.

  • Where are you now?
  • What is important to you?
  • What do you want out of life?
  • What do you aspire to accomplish?

Such questions will help you to not only realize how far you have come, but help you approach your goals in a way that is not overwhelming. Keep your dreams in mind, and check in with yourself on a monthly basis to see where you are at. However, don’t forget to keep practicing gratitude on a regular basis. You can try daily journaling or meditating to help you organize your thoughts and decompress.

#3 Take Care of Yourself and Unwind

Taking care of your body and prioritizing your health is essential to self-care. You don’t want to run yourself ragged when managing your career. It can be tempting to pull an all-nighter or not get up from your desk. Resist the temptation.

You need adequate rest and a healthy balance of exercise.

Strive for at least nine hours of sleep a night, and at least try to move your body and exercise each day. You can get active through a variety of activities, even if the gym is not your thing. Consider zumba, yoga, and group cardio for instance. Whatever you choose, staying active can really boost your mood. Beyond adequate sleep and exercise, finding ways to work in additional relaxing self-care activities can be extremely beneficial.

One self-care practice to better take care of your body, is to take a look at your beauty and skin-care regimen. May we not only find such a beauty regimen relaxing, but it can have a positive impact on our health as well. Whether you like to get a facial, or enjoy pampering yourself to unwind at the end of the day, pay special attention to your skin health. Nowadays you are probably finding that you are wearing your mask for many hours of the day, from work, to the store, and everywhere in-between. Such continuous use can create a moist environment, which can cause some skincare concerns (especially now that we’re all in masks). In order to prevent dry skin, and clogged pores, try layering in some go to prescription skin-care products. Nourishing your skin with a cleanser, or moisturizer can help keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Also, don’t forget to wash your face regularly, and remove your makeup at the end of the day.

#4 Plan Ahead

Some of the most successful women entrepreneurs out there fall back on the philosophy of always being prepared or planning ahead.

Getting your things ready by anticipating what needs to be done for the week ahead can help you feel relaxed and confident.

You all know what it feels like to rush around the last minute because you put something off. It sure does provoke a lot of unwanted and unneeded stress and anxiety. Therefore, one way to help you feel relaxed and prepared, is to lay out what you need for the next day in front of you the night before. Get your bag ready for tomorrow, and plan out your looks for the week. With so many choices, it may even be helpful to get some outfit inspo, when putting together your wardrobe.

#5 Be Your Own Cheerleader

As a career driven professional, you probably have some pretty high expectations for yourself, and may have the tendency to be self-critical. However, in order to succeed you must believe in yourself, your abilities, and be able to bring out the inner confidence you have within. Acknowledge just how far you have come and everything you have accomplished. Remember it is not just luck or coincidence that got you that promotion or the fact that you had a lot of interest in your blog, or store this month. Rather the hard work and dedication you put in sure pays off.

Never neglect to celebrate your wins whether they’re big or small.

Be your own cheerleader, be kind to yourself, and treat yourself for your hard work. Reward your hard work with a spa day, treat yourself to your favorite restaurant, or buy the new blazer you pinned on your Pinterest board.

#6 Talk It Out

We’ve all got a lot on our plates. From your business to your personal life, there is a lot to balance. Sometimes it can make all the difference just to talk and sort out your thoughts. Don’t bottle up everything inside, it can relieve some pressure by sharing your concerns or goals with others. Finding a mentor or a life coach can be an amazing opportunity to help you grow interpersonally and professionally. Being able to connect with someone who can hear you out and give you a pep talk can help foster your confidence and communication skills. Also, don’t forget to network!

Connect with your fellow young professionals and get involved in your community.

You never know what great workshop you can happen across, or projects you can become involved in through growing your network.

Never forget to invest in yourself. From pouring all your time and energy into your blog, career, side hustle, and beyond, always remember to save some love and space for you too. We’ve all been there. Sometimes it’s hard to just unplug that laptop, stop scrolling, and put away unfinished work for the day. Time truly is precious, a precious commodity indeed. Time always seems to be fleeting, moments slip from our grasp, but don’t allow those much-needed moments for you to be put on the back burner. It’s time to be empowered by self care.

this fall’s minimalist pop color: green

There may never have been such a strong color trend as this 2021 trending hue. The new fashion statement color – a bold hue of vivid green.

Perhaps due to society’s shift in getting back to nature, this color of life is dominating catwalks and streetstyle stars alike.

(OK I made up the getting back to nature part… but hey, it makes sense). And, after doing some further digging into the trend, in fact the FW21-22 NYFW Color Forecast does call the color a tribute to “the fun side of nature.”

image cred: Bottega Veneta runway featured by Vogue

Spotted on stars like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid (frequently spotted sporting this color trend), you probably can’t open your social without spotting some hue of primary to emerald green.

Green is truly the color of life. And while fall slowly steals that away from us, we’re still reminded of summer memories with this grassy hue that somehow evokes a feel-good energy. Who wouldn’t want to capture that.

And it’s not just your fashion influencers adopting the trend. Major luxury players like Bottega Veneta and Louis Vuitton have made it an important part of their collections.

image cred: VOGUE

Even Vogue magazine made a big green statement featuring Adele in a couture gown on their recent cover in (you know what) statement green.

And while you might spot some of your most fierce fashion players in this daring head-to-toe color, the minimalist fashion gurus are embracing the hue as a pop color in all manor of fashion accessories.

I myself couldn’t resist the trend for the same reasons above – clinging to some part of the summer when the earth feels alive and green. Exuding a feeling of hope and optimism for the future (WWD). For a subtle statement, this new architectural crossbody by Tocco Toscano did the trick, along with some minimal sandals I swept up early in the spring.

Want to give it a try? Take some Inso from these minimalist fashion influencers absolutely slaying the trend.

Best Maison Margiela Replica Fragrance (I’ve tried all of them)

Trying to decide which scent is right for you? Here’s a Replica perfume review that made it to the top of your search results for a reason.

There’s just something about finding the perfect fragrance to suit your mood. It’s like a little hint of luxury that everyone can afford. Just like fashion, it sets a tone, evokes memories, and inspires moments.

Want to experience it for yourself? Here are the perfumes featured in this Replica Review.

I’m quite fairly obsessed with the Maison Margiela Replica fragrances. Having my first taste for the brand back in 2019, I’ve since shared reviews of some of my favorite fragrances, stories of my pup Naizak rolling in her favorite scents, as well as recommended Maison Margiela replica fragrances in multiple luxury gift guides.

Beyond that, the cult following has spread to my closest circle of friends, who have often commented and converted to Replica scents as their own favorites.

What is the best maison margiela fragrance

But what is the best Replica scent?

After several messages of inquiry I’ve received both personally and through the blog, I’ve decided to share this replica perfume review to briefly cover some of the finer notes of each of my personal favorites, and what you can expect to experience if you opt for a Replica perfume of your own.

Here are the olfactory nuances I’ve noticed after trying nearly the entire Replica perfume collection for myself.

Maison Margiela’s Replica Eau de Toilette collection currently consists of around sixteen fragrances. Of those, I have experienced nearly all, aside from 2-3.

And not just the mini discovery size. I mean the full-bottle, full experience of each including the latest Autumn Vibes, Matcha Meditation, By the Fireplace, Jazz Club, Under the Lemon Tree, Beach Walk, Bubble Bath, Music Festival, Springtime in a Park, Whispers in the Library and Sailing Day.

Here are the links to my absolute favorites:

maison margiela replica bubble bath perfume

Each have their own charm, but I’m often asked, which is the absolute best Replica scent I’ve had so far.

Well I’m about to spill all, following a brief disclaimer statement – as the fundamental olfactive notes consistently emerge, perfumes will manifest uniquely as they bond with your own body’s chemistry. So what may smell one way to me, might smell a bit different on you. However, I’ve done my best to share some of the finer notes that seem to resonate on myself as well as others I have shared the fragrances with in the past. Without further adieu, let’s dive in.

Best Replica scent for fall: Autumn Vibes

The best Maison Margiela fragrance for fall – let’s hear it for their latest release, Autumn Vibes. A “pure moment of escape and gathering” (Maison Margiela), Autumn Vibes couldn’t be more appropriately named. When you think of leaves crunching softly under your feet and that scent of fresh, earthy air – this is what you’ll be dreaming of.

Autumn Vibes >

Just last week we went on a day hike through Cole Mountain on the Appalachian Trail, just as the leaves here have started to turn and fall. My husband literally stopped in his tracks to remark, “it smells just like your new perfume out here.” His reference of course, was an ode to the latest delivery of Replica Autumn Vibes that had arrived just days before.

maison margiela replica autumn vibes review

If I could describe the scent, it has a deep woodsy, cedar undertone with a fresh, almost sweet and peppery top note, which I’m assuming comes from the pink peppercorn, cardamon and coriander essence. It has a sort of sister scent to By the Fireplace, which has a similar woodsy vibe, but more of a smokey olfactory note. (Which by the way, is another cult favorite of mine, more on that later). Both are excellent unisex fragrances, so you can share with your partner.

(Personal Favorite) Best Maison Margiela fragrance for everyday: Sailing Day

Why do I say for everyday? Well considering it was my first bottle to run quite low, it’s clear it’s what I gravitate towards most regularly. Sailing Day is light and fresh, and has a hint of ocean air with salty ambergris undertones.

Unlike many fresh scents, it doesn’t have an overly perfumy or floral scent, making it a great selection for those with a more sensitive sense of smell (like myself). It makes me feel clean and energized, and is my go to for office and daytime activities.

Best Replica scent for an evening out: By the Fireplace

Ok you got me, I’m a little partial to the woodsy smells. Similar to Autumn vibes, By the Fireplace has a sort of outdoorsy, woodsy smell. But with a more smokey undertone. Why I like it for an evening out? In all honesty, I’d have to admit it’s because it may be because it’s one of my absolute favorite fragrances of all time. But aside from my personal bias, it has a warm, welcoming scent reminiscent of campfire nights that gives off a sort of homey, alluring fragrance. It’s perfect for an evening spent on a rooftop bar gathered by a stone fireplace – glass of wine in hand of course.

Best Replica fragrance for a romantic night in: Whispers in the Library

Don’t let the name deceive you, Whispers in the Library is a little more sensual than it sounds. The smell is soft and sweet, with just the right amount of musk. And is that a touch of vanilla I smell? It’s the kind of scent that makes you want to graze the skin of the person wearing it just to inhale the fragrance more deeply, and I’ve found it have the same effect on men and women alike. Watch out house partners, or anyone who dare come close. I don’t hold myself responsible for what may happen next…

all we need is time

The sunset was reflecting a spectrum if iridescent hues in the traffic paint. A softened depiction of the vibrant sky above. That’s when I knew I was dreaming again. And what a feeling. Like a cool spray of sea quenching a desert soul.

I have learned a lot during this past year of accosted endeavors and ceaseless pursuits. The most life changing of which – work can be the most devastating sabotage of progress if it consumes time beyond its purpose.

We should all pursue growth. Attack life with ferocity that overcomes challenges, and discipline ourselves enough to accomplish even the most arduous tasks. But, we must never let that consume us. Or else, you risk losing everything – even the outcome you so earnestly pursued from the start.

We are all human. As such, we’ve been created with an innate desire to learn and grow. But, when we channel our vision, we loose sight of the inspiration around us. We forget to breath. We don’t pause to listen, to learn.

There’s a point where pursuit becomes the antithesis of progress.

While I cannot begin to assume where that line is for everyone, I urge you to discover your own. You can accomplish everything, but it takes time. Time is one of the most valued possessions on earth, and it is one we do not own. Don’t take it for granted. And wield what you have in wisdom.

Decide what is the most important to you. Spend time on that, while it is still yours.

For me, I give a nod to the year past – and to a society that breathes for self-fulfillment in endless pursuit. For me, I will keep dreaming. I will bask in the ever inspiring beauty of God’s creation. I will pursue what is right, above worth. And I will be spending my time reveling in the most of these – love.

“I just need
A little time to show you I’m worth it
I know that I can be a difficult person
I’m a stress case drive you up the wall when I’m workin’
Actually I’m prolly worse when I’m not you don’t deserve it
Make you nervous ’cause you know I’ma break soon
Every time I do I say something that hurts you
Actin’ like I’m gone, but we both in the same room
I don’t like to be wrong which I know you relate to
And I know I make you feel like you’re at the end of your road
That’s when I look at you and tell you I’d be better alone
That’s just the pride talkin’ isn’t it cause both of us know
I’m the definition of wreck if you look into my soul
Comes out the most
When I feel I’m in a vulnerable place
Made a lot of mistakes
I wish I knew how to erase
When I’m afraid
Might get distant, and I push you away
But no matter the case
I’ma do whatever it takes
Even if
Even if we both break down tonight
And you say you hate me
And we go to bed angry
I know everything will be alright
I’ll be here waiting
I promise I’m changing
I just need time”

typology paris review | personalized skincare with all natural, simple ingredients

As some of you may know, I’m quite particular as to what I put on my skin. Skincare is so critical, and ensuring well moisturized, pampered skin can keep you young for years. I’ve recently found a skincare routine that I’m quite fond of, but I’m also on ever on the lookout for new and interesting brands and products, while trying to manage a minimal “inventory” of my favorite products to support a more minimalist lifestyle. When Typology reached out offering a

personalized skincare regiment, with products that contained as little as 5 ingredients,

I couldn’t refuse. A few months later, after I’ve had the chance to consistently use the products for several weeks, and wanted to share this Typology Paris review.

Before we begin, let’s talk about how and why the future of skincare and beauty is all about personalization.

As consumers increasingly seek out beauty solutions suited to their specific needs, there has never been a greater need for personalization. Everyone has unique skin, so why create products that only tailor to one specific kind of skin or problem? The concept of personalization in any field is becoming more popular due to the influx of information online and the ability to receive feedback or consumer data. Social media has also played a major role by informing people about what their beauty needs should be.

We know more about our skin than ever before. Skincare has never been a one-size-fits-all product, and now, more than ever, we are waking up to this idea.

Typology Paris is a radical new skincare brand that focuses on eradicating impossible expectations and suspect chemicals. They wanted to take an autonomous approach by working from the ground up. Typology Paris built an online-only, direct to customer model,

which meant they could sell premium products with the highest quality ingredients at a great price.

Their philosophy is not to add anything to their products, but instead to make them stand out. Typology distills each formula down to the most essential, natural, and active ingredients. When going to try out typology, you must complete a fairly extensive “skin test” that evaluates which products best address your skin.

Typology dedicates itself to finding the best ingredients.

“Whether in France, around Europe or further afield in search of exotic extracts, they must be sourced from sustainable farms using gentle extraction techniques.” – Typology

The formulas are simple and effective. Typology’s formulas aren’t the only thing that’s clean and refreshing. Their packaging perfectly reflects the mission of the brand by not leaving a trace of products or their brand in the environment. “At every step of the production process, we use recyclable materials and sustainable transport.” The packaging has a beautiful, minimalist aesthetic. The same goes for their materials. They use glass for smaller packaging and recycled plastic for larger ones.

Typology Paris Purifying Toner

The first step in my custom skincare regiment (after a gentle wash) was the Purifying Toner with 1% Salicylic Acid. This antibacterial toner is meant to tackle dark spots and blemishes. This toner has a pH similar to that of our own skin, so works to rebalance the skin’s pH after every cleanse. In my previous morning and evening routine, I use pure rose water as my toner (also because I love the fresh scent). This one has slightly more “texture” with a gentle, clean smell.

Typology 9 Ingredient Face Moisturizer

The typology face moisturizer is a minimalist fragrance-free moisturizer with a lightweight, non-greasy texture. This lightweight hydrating cream is comprised of just nine ingredients including organic coconut oil, sugar cane pentylene glycol, and a few other natural ingredients. I love this moisturizer because it is really light, and doesn’t “set heavily” on your skin. It also comes in a tube, which is great for easy packing or throwing in a bag for midday moister.

Typology Hydrating Cleansing Bar

The Hydrating Cleansing Bar with palmarosa is a face and body soap that nourishes the skin with a high concentration of oils and moisturizing glycerin. Weirdly enough to say about a bar soap – I’m a huge fan. It gently cleanses and moisturizes the skin without damaging trying it out, thanks to its 8% fatty acid content. Those oils and fatty acids – they really work. Unlike other bar soap, it really didn’t dry out my skin, and I skew towards more dry skin naturally. It has a pleasant, homemade sort of soap smell and texture, and honestly could be my favorite product from Typology. I used it on my face and body (with sensitive skin) and haven’t found a bar soap I like so much since.

Typology Radiance Night Serum

The Radiance Night Serum in Botanical blend with white rose is an overnight oil that boosts radiance and regenerates the skin while you sleep. Overnight, this serum starts cell renewal and repairs your skin. Its rapid penetration leaves a silky finish without any oily residue. The texture is a bit tacky, so if you don’t like getting your fingers sticky, you may want to opt for an alternate blend. However, the texture on my face was smooth after application.

Typology Antioxidant Serum

Next, the Antioxidant serum with 3% Ferulic Acid and 3% Resveratrol. This serum aims to improve radiance, firm skin and fight against premature aging. Use it the same way as the Vitamin C serum, and as frequently as possible for the best results. Similar to the night serum, the texture is a bit thick, but after application it settles nicely into your skin. I would say it’s difficult for me to share results since this is more of a long-term result, but the scent was pleasant and again, love that it uses fewer ingredients than traditional skincare options.

Typology Antioxidant Serum review

Typology Vitamin C Serum

The Radiance Serum with 11% Vitamin C is an active-rich serum that restores radiance to dull and tired skin. I’ve had amazing results with products that contain vitamin C thanks to the long line of skin benefits Vitamin C provides – this one was no exception. Though I had an accidental spill that left me just enough use for a couple of weeks, I did notice a lightening of my dark spots and a natural glow that I often credit to vitamin C-rich products.

The review and results after several weeks using exclusively Typology skincare products?

Typology not only creates amazing products, but also presents an option for luxury skincare at unmatched attainable prices. Typology set out to be available to everyone so they can experience personalized skincare. The future of skincare is personalization, and I loved that Typology was able to create a custom routine for me based off of my exact skincare needs.

typology paris skincare review

After several weeks of use, I noticed healthy, clear skin with a smooth even texture. A little less oily than my normal routine. I want to buy the bar soap in cases, and might shed a tear after my moisturizer runs dry. If you have sensitive or specific skin concerns and don’t want to slab on a truck load of ingredients, take the skin quiz and give your customized routine a try!

today’s outfit inspo: the sweater vest

No filters, no effects, today’s actual outfit. After putting some thought into what I want to see @dayinmydreams represent this fall as a minimalist and luxury fashion blog,

I want to share more real life moments and fashion that isn’t just styled for a feed, but styled for life.

Today is one of my last work from home days, before I return to the office full time as marketing director of CSC. while most of this year has been a blur, I’ll tell you my 8-5 work from home style has been essentially loungewear with a blazer thrown over top.

That’s about to change as we return to the office, and I have to admit, I’m a bit excited for the shift in gears.

Lots coming for fall. Just published this fall’s trend report on key styles we’re seeing from around the globe.

Get ready for a continuation of preppy sophisticates, as well as an emergence of nature-inspired trends – largely rooted in sustainability. You can check out the full fall trend report here.

With October right around the corner, it’s already time to break out some essential pieces like this grey sweater vest. Sweater vests are making a big comeback this fall, and if you’re looking for one staple item to bolster your winter wardrobe – this is it. You’ll be seeing a lot more of this key item on the blog.

Wear a sweater vest alone (like today’s work from home outfit), or style them over blouses, under blazers, with skirts, trousers, and basically any other combination you can think of.

It’s an extremely versatile piece that can be styled preppy sophisticate, or cozy cottage depending on your pairing choices.

Today’s look is a transitional sophisticate style, paired with dress shorts from Delphine the label, and a statement Hermes belt. This is an easy home, weekend or errand combo when you want to be tailored and professional, but still comfy casual. No accessories needed, but a luxury statement belt doesn’t hurt.

(If you haven’t invested in a statement belt, it’s worth it. This one is reversible, with a removable buckle that can be swapped to combine with other Hermes items. Thank you for being functional and fashionable Hermes.)

Swap the shorts for trousers and you have a comfy, minimalist combo. As the weather gets cooler, continue to layer with a simple button down.

Come November? Throw a blazer of the top. Still chilly, get that tie sweater over your shoulders 90’s prep style, and you’ll have a look you can rotate in all season.
