confident

Demi Lovato’s “Confident” stuck in my head. Holy girl-power… if that’s not enough to get you strutting your stuff this weekend, not sure what will. The past week has been spent in mindful debate over a new direction in my working carrier. When you come to a crux in life, it can be difficult to be confident that, (within the rush of emotions and opportunities) the decision you make will be the best one. But more than right or wrong, it’s most important that when you do make the choice, you stick to it with guns blazing. No one can predict the future, but you can wield the direction of the day with your choices. So here’s to being confident that today will be your day, and you will live it boldly. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | silk blouse:VINCE | skirt c/o:DIARIO DE UNA COUTURIER | luggage set:TUMI | shoes c/o:CLARKS | stack rings c/o:K D’ANGELO With a fresh working mindset – and this totally beautiful new luggage set gifted to me by a good friend Manish, the feeling of …

from the other side

Hope everyone survived Turkey day with nothing worse than food commas and pumpkin pie overdose. Gotta love a holiday that centers around over-eating. Seriously. I love it. And couldn’t have had a better weekend with a full house  of loved ones and record 65 degree and sunny afternoons. Finally, one year I don’t dread the post-turkey trot with frost icing over my face. #gobblegobble So yeah, coat weather… not such a big fan – sweater weather, that’s a whole other story. Who wouldn’t love cozying into this oversized knit from French connection (another TJMaxx find!) and wide leg trousers from Parker Smith. Why is it that the best denim always comes from California? Californians, I’m officially jealous of your cotton loving, jean weaving state. I must come visit you. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | knit:FRENCH CONNECTION | wide leg trousers c/o:PARKER SMITH | timepiece c/o: THE FIFTH | rings c/o:K D’Angelo Designs | ear cuffs c/o: BOUTIQUE MINIMALISTE New timepiece from The Fifth. just when things were getting interesting

Enjoyed a bit of unorthodox leisure time last week. Between checking off some of those dusty to-do’s and enjoying a couple evenings over a glass of wine (and by a glass, yes… I do mean bottle), I was also also able to catch the flick Kingsman. Antiquated as the concept may be, I can’t get enough of the gentleman = lethal spy plot. Guys, in case you haven’t figured it out yet – suits are to women, as lingerie is to men. We find it attractive when you at least look like you’ve got your sh** together. And really, if you can’t bear to get out of your stained collage T and torn jeans on occasion, just bear this in mind: you don’t wear it, neither will we. #yourenotthebossofme #unlessyoulooklikeone Something about leather pants aways does it for me. rough on the edges

Studies say it takes us only 7 seconds to generate our initial opinion of another person. 7 seconds! Think about that for a minute. That individual standing across from you has spend years learning and growing, seeing the world from completely different eyes. They have seen loss, and overcome challenges. They have had victories, and lost battles. They have lived stories that no other person in this world could tell. And yet, we are so confident in ourselves, that we have the audacity to sum them up in the same amount of time it takes to inhale a gulp of coffee? My word – we are truly pretentious creatures. And let’s not forget that we’re not the only ones judging. Rest assured that your onlookers are developing those same opinions about you! And while those impressions are all but completely out of your control, it is your choice to let those 7 seconds define you, or to live the life you’ve created for yourself. The method to my madness: embrace the inner beauty of yourself, and …

it’s only natural

Wisconsin bound, making the most of my 45 min interval of free internet at the gate, compliments of American Airlines. A genuine thank you for the access… but seriously… with as many times as I’ve been canceled and delayed for hours (literally every time I fly with you), 45 minutes is all you got for me? #whereisthelove Cranky you say?? I had to be up at 3:30am to catch this flight, and my morning tea bag sunk into the bottom of my cup so all I’m drinking is hot water. So screw you world!… and your heavy tea bag!!! On a brighter note, I’ve actually been quite chipper lately upon finding some inner peace, and taking another step of growing past surrounding conflicts and being able to just. let. go. Practice that smile enough, and it’s only natural. We were created for a beautiful purpose, let’s reflect that light. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:iPHONE6 | white ensemble:TJMAXX | leather clutch c/o:THE LEATHER COLLECTIVE | shoes:MADELINE | rings:FOREVER21 | timepiece:OMEGA | smokey nail laquer c/o:INTENSAE Speaking of light, can’t decide which I like …

hey there slick

Apparently have an unquenchable taste for all-black lately. I swear I’ll branch out later this week… maybe. I’ve been musing over Instagram’s never ending inspirations, and really feeling the knee-ripped jeans and succulent vibes. Unfortunately, I don’t have a green thumb, so I’ll have to live sans pop of spiny greenery for now. However, here’s my nod to western undertones, the minimalist’s edition of course. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | top:EXPRESS | jeans:ROCKSTAR | bucket bag c/o:THE LEATHER COLLECTIVE | silk scarf c/o:VèVèlle | timepiece c/o:FJORD | boots c/o:OTBT By far my favorite bag silhouette of the year, introducing my very first (and favorite) bucket bag from The Leather Collective. Hand crafted hide, this piece has been my go-to since it arrived. (was that just an adorable, unplanned rhyme… yes… yes it was.) What I like about it: bucket bags roomy enough to haul around my daily equipment needs, without being as bulky as a tote. Plus I’m a huge sucker for rich leather, so this was a no brainer for me. Their designs have a nice …

say you’ll remember me

Walked into the grocery store this weekend to the welcoming aroma of freshly brewed, pumpkin spice latte, only to discover on my way out that it was actually perfumed pinecones… who came up with this madness?! While usually apprehensive of the changing of the seasons (hey fall fans… did you forget that WINTER comes next??)… this year I actually find myself quite ready for the cool morning air. Feels like a fresh start every day. Plus, I have been eying my growing stack of knit sweaters that I’m dying to get into. So much so, that I would actually feel a bit deceitful if I did not also share with you, that I am currently wearing said sweater – even though outdoors should reach the mid-eighties today. Hey – it’s cool in the air conditioning. #dontjudge White after Labor Day? Bring it on. (I just realized all of my paragraphs begin with “W” today… weird) Wearing a new top from Danice Stores that was a total steal, and layering on the white for fall transition. Fashion rules are made to …

a tether keeping me there

In a place inescapable, and not wanting to leave. Welcome to one of the many wonders of the world, Natural Bridge. Deemed the “Bridge of God” by the Indians who discovered it, this archway was carved from the seemingly still waters that run through it’s gateway. Whether it was the contrast of shade beneath the bridge, or the cool blue of the water’s reflection, my breath felt hot against the stone, like an earthen beast lurking in the dark in search for prey. ….ooor maybe I just felt like a bad-ass wearing laced leather shorts and killer sandals. Either way, it made the adventure all the more exciting. Which, by the way – I was able to enjoy with dad and bother visiting for the weekend. If you ever find yourself in VA, this place is great for an all-day of play with trails along the bridge, a semi-large zoo, and the deepest caves on the East Coast. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III |  top:VINCE | shorts:NASTYGAL | gladiators:OTBT | pendant and chain c/o:SILVER MOTH And if you can appreciate beauty that takes time, …

have a scentsational week

Good morning friends. 6:39am EST, and I’ve been lurking about my house for the past couple of hours. A new habit of mine that presents itself during nights at random… Insomnia. And I’ve got to admit… I love it. Before you assume I’ve gone completely mad (which is probably the case)… It happened first when I was under a particular amount of pressure from my big girl job. So much to do, so little time. My body was so angst, it fought sleep until I conceded around 3:30am. Instead of allowing those bitchy jittery feelings pulse through my horizontal being, I got up (brilliant) and began trudging around the house, catching up on laundry, freelance projects, pending to-do’s, and yes – even the blog. Those few extra hours were surprisingly mad productive (apparently the zombie version of myself has exceeding work ethics) – and by my “usual” morning time, I felt so accomplished; the strain of the day had vanished. And a day began with a positive outlook and a clear mind, made tackling that extra load at the office a breeze. Plus… with nothing left needed to …

fly away with me

Happy New Years Eve! By far the most anticipated holiday of the year for me… not because one has to wait the longest for it to arrive, but because everyone needs fresh starts, new goals, and a new mantra to live by. For the past several years, I’ve always thought out one phrase that I really want to Post-it note to my mind through the following year. Cheesy I know, but it helps me stay focused and driven to accomplish (not so much a goal) but a new way of seeing things. Last year, overwhelmed with 70+ hour work weeks, a plethora of personal life chaos, a lot of life changes, etc (you get the point, we’ve all been there)… my mantra for 2014 has been, “Striving for perfection is in vain. Instead, succeed in making progress.” -me ;)  Because when you take on the world, sometimes it’s a bigger bite than we can handle, but piece at a time – you can really accomplish anything. This past year through those struggles, some life-long goals have been accomplished, and …
