flattering lightweight loungewear and luxury essentials – MONROW review

We all want to look and feel our best, but fashion in real life also needs to be functional. The outfits we actually wear must comfortable and versatile enough to suit our daily lifestyle needs.

Meet MONROW, a luxury brand of casual essential wear that is not only that, but flattering and fashionable as well.

MONROW designs function essentials for a minimalist lifestyle on the go

Before I share a detailed MONROW review, let me first begin by describing some aspects if my personal lifestyle that you may be able to relate to, so you can understand why MONROW makes for such core fashion essentials in my wardrobe.

I’ve been actively weeding out my wardrobe for the past several months, reducing the clutter and bringing my most essential fashion pieces forward where I can wear, care for, and actually see them. It’s been a rewarding experience.

I’ve learned what pieces are most important in my lifestyle, and what truly defines my personal sense of style. It’s also given me a fresh insight on the wardrobe staples that I actually wear the most, and are more worth investing in to get better quality and fit.

I like to think my style says a little bit about myself. I have a deep appreciation for natural beauty, art, lines, balance. I love simplicity when it’s done right. I like my fashion to work for me, make me feel confident and more like myself.

These are reasons why I tend to gravitate to what I would consider a functional minimalist style, with modern details and shapes that inspire my creative nature and work together for something I see as a form of art.

Then real life happens, and you don’t always have time to piece together the perfect combo that combines function, balance, mood and intrigue.

The need for fashion efficiency has lead me to a deep appreciation of luxury athleisure wear, and what has ultimately lead me to MONROW.

I discovered MONROW through an agency that connected us – one very good reason I’m thankful to manage a luxury fashion blog. The brand discovery is a phenomenal opportunity I feel blessed to have at my disposal.

MONROW is a luxury brand of athleisure wear and essentials with an assorted collection of sweatshirts, sweat pants, summer dresses and other casual wear defined by their thoughtfully selected materials and essential silhouettes.

I was initially intrigued by the sweatsuit silhouettes that appeared to be more fitting and better shaped for casual attire suited not only for real life at home, but also quite presentable and fashionable enough to wear out of the house. I was already imagining countless styling options working the pieces into outfits to wear out week nights through weekends. The brand felt very “me.”

Fast forward to this past week – MONROW gifted me two of their supersoft signature sweatsuits that I’ve had the opportunity to try out for myself. Want to know if they stood up to my initial intrigue? Here’s my MONROW review.

MONROW “supersoft” material review: soft and stretchy, with a lightweight knit feel

True to the look of the photos, MONROW’s supersoft materials are as cozy and enveloping as they look. It’s no wonder it’s one of the most loved materials they design with. Super soft with a ton of stretch, the fine knit and lightweight material make these sweatsuits less cumbersome than some heavy duty sweats, and ideal for all season wear. The extra flex and soft cotton blend makes them insanely comfortable against your skin. I’d say the feel falls somewhere between a light knit cashmere sweater and a pair of your favorite cotton leggings.

Note if you’re looking for that traditional sweat suit or crewneck feel, these are not for you. The supersoft is more similar to knit loungewear than sweatpants. The nice thing about the site, MONROW organizes their collection by material in the main nav drop down menu, so you can know exactly what you’re getting before you buy.

MONROW fit review: buy them smaller

I selected size XS for my MONROW sweatsuits since I like a more fitted look for this type of lightweight loungewear. I usually wear between an XS and a S, and was glad I went with the smaller size. If you’re debating between two sizes, go smaller. They’re so stretchy it made for a more flattering fit yet forgiving enough not to pull too tightly. Since the material is so soft, it does stretch a bit after an hour or so of wear, so plan accordingly. The elastic at the ankles was just right – there’s nothing worse than a comfy pair of sweats that cuts off your circulation. The elastic has a loose fit that gives the tapered look without the rubbing. They are a nice crop length on my 5’7” frame, perfect to pair with sneakers for casual athleisure days.

What to wear with MONROW sweats

One of my favorite moments in a new piece of clothing, the styling options. Because these sets are lightweight and fitted, there are a lot of styling options to convert this loungewear into great casual pieces to style all week.

Wear as a set with sneakers

Wear as a set with fresh white or pop color sneakers for lounging at home in style or running weekend errands. Layer over a trench coat for cool or rainy days for a look that’s effortlessly off duty chic. Want to wear through winter? Swap your sneaks for mid-calf boots for an edgier rendition that you can wear through snow and sleet.

Don’t forget to style your sweatsuits as separates! You can really extend your wear this way.

The lightweight crew neck sweater pairs great with your favorite denim and loafers for a casual Friday office look. Throw on some wayfarer’s if you want to up your street cred.

Wear to the office layered over a white fitted button down blouse (my favorite go-to for layering is this one by Anne Fontaine since it’s super fitted at the body, and classic poplin at the color and sleeves). Pair with wide leg trousers and loafers for a timeless outfit rooted in casual luxury.

Want to wear your crewneck for cool summer nights? Pair with coordinating elastic shorts layered over a white tee and pair with clogs or double Velcro sandals for casual resort wear vibes.

Looking for more ways to style your sweats? Pair with a fitted long sleeve tee and white high tops for a look that’s sporty and fresh. Or pair with a graphic tee and bomber for those rainy days you just don’t want to get dressed.

MONROW final review notes – a great selection for soft, luxury loungewear

If you’ve been searching for lightweight loungewear to invest in, MONROW fits the bill. Plus you can feel good about shopping this made in LA brand that’s supporting the community and beyond with luxury quality clothing and casual-cool modern designs. In a wardrobe I regularly cycle out unworn items, these two sweatsuits have found their permanent home, and I’m sure they will become core essentials from now and for years to come. Thanks to MONROW for the chance to give them a try, for making quality staples for those of us who believe less is more, and style should be both fashionable and functional without compromise. Happy to share the review and spread the word about a brand you can really get behind.
