fall fashion

we’re a new breed; we’re ready for winter this time

The rain fell steadily behind the glass. Though the wind was as still as it was from indoors. The sky, dark, as was the unlit room. Days have gotten shorter. The sunlight, fighting for control of the shorter days. Fall has arrived, and with it, a hush of silence as we prepare for our first cold weather season in a post-Covid world. photography:MAMMA | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | lace dress c/o:MAGALI PASCAL | vegan leather dress jacket c/o:DAVID LERNER | pebbled leather pouch c/o:STATUS ANXIETY | shoes c/o:NAKED FEET Something about it feels quieter than before. Like the stillness resounds louder off of closed city doors. If ever we were urged to stay home, now is the time we consider, that might not be such a bad thing. Bears hibernate through winters, saving their energy for the more habitable months. As we continue to adapt to a new normal, we consider what the new season will bring. Trapped, alone, scared. The memories of summer past remind us of just how much has changed in …

positive lifestyle changes since Covid-19

In light of the word’s upheaval during the Covid-19 pandemic, I wanted to share some positivity during a time of struggles. In no way am I making light of the tragic series of events during this crisis. However, I find that the flood in my inbox and news channels of live updates and notifications are the best resource for appropriate guidelines and safety measures. Here on Day in my dreams, I hope to share something with you that’s inspiring to make a positive moment out of a dire situation. My heart goes out to all who are suffering. For those looking for a silver lining, here are 10 positive lifestyle changes I’ve experienced since the Covid-19 crisis. My hope is to inspire you to make positive changes in your life as well, and learn to grow and adapt in a time of crisis. 1: I’m working remote Working in pajamas, better snack options, no interruptions during chaotic deadlines… How many of you have wished for and begged to work remotely? For many of us, that …

black vinyl pants with chunky white sneakers and a bodysuit

vinyl, velvet and volte-faced

If you can’t see your face in my pants, they’re probably not tight enough (and I doubt that’s the case). Feeling sleek with a fierce display of reflective fashion. If I had a spirit animal, it would be a panther, and my wild side certainly materializes with the kind of style that effects your mood. Though, underneath it all, I’m a kitten I suppose, with a soft velvet bodysuit and underlying disposition to match. Split personality you say? Just living life fun I say. [shop: SNEAKERS] [shop: BODYSUITS] [shop:LEGGINGS] Everyone has multifaceted aspects to their core. Some more distinct than others, and some more subtle. Society tells us to be ourselves, as if it’s a singular state of being we need to force ourselves to conform to. I say, be as many versions of yourself as you think you can handle. Consistency and a strong identity have their perks. Diversity and self contradiction is more fun. A Sagittarius to the core, shifting to and from dynamics is practically second nature. Life is fluid, so why …

white lace dress in romantic setting

the way you make me glow

Soft and subtle. Warm and safe. It’s not who you are; it’s the way you make me feel. A fire crackles behind me, a sound competing only with the rain dropping on the skylights above. Naizak sleeps just between myself and the back door, probably the coolest place she can find while keeping me within sight. The afternoon was spent with delightful guests over a light brunch and a few (dozen) bottles of champaign. It’s a comfortable feeling having spent the day surrounded by people you love, and ending in silence and time to reflect. photography:ME | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | white lace dress c/o:ML Monique Lhuillier   There are some people you encounter that touch you differently, more deeply than others. The people that can, from a single glance, capture your thoughts, feelings and the deepest parts of your soul. They know. They see you. They don’t have to say anything, or even react. It’s an awareness. A different level of existence where you coincide on the same plain. They can speak to …

ugly duckling, a serenade to the season

so what if I’m not

A heavy fog weighs down on the mountaintops, yet the haze on the horizon is only half as concealing as the changes whirling in front of our eyes. Autumn has arrived, and the time has come for another serenade of the seasons. A fall night wind murmurs secrets of the season’s change, and we begin to seek comforts of a darker palette, a tighter hold, and whispers by a fire. Our deepest instincts urge us to be prepared, guarded and protected ourselves from the cold that is to come. We should be seeking comfort, but what if I’m not? Walls are often as dangerous as what they were built to protect, and the comforts of a fire can just as quickly burn you with a single touch of the flame. Life is unpredictable. And no matter how much we may focus on the preparation of safekeeping, the irony is that these measures make us no safer than we were before. Instead, they instill a false sense of security, create a crutch and make us shut …

tips on how to prepare for the holidays

how to prepare yourself for the holidays – meal planning, holiday checklist, and more

It happens every year, yet somehow we’re never prepared. It’s holiday season. There are strings of lights tangled in every corner of the house, flour from your mishap-baking project covering the entire kitchen, smoke rises as the turkey burns to a dry lug in the oven, and half-wrapped presents lay concealed under your dirty laundry in the bedroom. Sound familiar? It’s tough to survive the holidays. Especially if you’re balancing a job, family school – or like me balancing being a fashion blogger with another full time career. If life wasn’t pleasantly chaotic enough, someone decided to put Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, school registration, end-of-year reports, 4th quarter deadlines and your dog’s stomach flue all in the same few weeks. Not well planned. Not well planned at all. Thankfully, you can be. I’ve found the key to surviving the holidays is all about three things: planning, organization, and maintaining a level of sanity with a healthy lifestyle. It’s amazing the perspective you can have if you actually manage to get that early start for once. …

tomorrow mattress review pillow fight

Tomorrow mattress-in-a-box review

Anyone else been wondering what’s up with these mattress-in-a-box phenomenons? I’ve partnered with Tomorrow to provide you a review and show you exactly what that’s all about, and what you can expect when unboxing your memory foam hybrid mattress. Tomorrow is one of the iconic sleep-support brands providing sleepers with an easier solution to mattress shopping – mattresses delivered in a box, straight to your door. (I live in a third-story apartment, so I can’t express how much easier that makes life for me). photography:KRISTINA PETRICK & KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | memory foam hybrid mattress and accessories c/o:TOMORROW   Unlike their competitors, Tomorrow not only specializes in easy delivery, their business model is centered around providing a sleep-experience, rather than just a mattress. “We believe the better you understand what you do while you sleep, the more you can improve how you feel when you step out of bed”. – Tomorrow With that principal in mind, they have studied the connection between engineering and sleep environment and their affect on a …

I’ve put together a couple new interior inspo looks in collaboration with Desenio posters to show you the power of swapping out your wall art. If you decide you want to shop some posters yourself, use code: dayinmydreams at checkout. The code “dayinmydreams” gives 25% off posters* between 24th – 26th October. *Except for handpicked/collaboration posters and frames. photography:KRISTINA PETRICK | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | poster art c/o:DESENIO About this time last year, I worked with Desenio for some interior inspiration for the holidays. This year, it was time for an upgrade with some new nature prints and warmer textures for the fall season. Let’s start with the living room. Surrounding myself in minimalist design, I keep my interior mostly all white, and focus on a few statement pieces. For the cold season, I chose a winter-mix mood, featuring wide open scenery and mountain top vibes. Incorporating a scattered poster pattern helps fill a large wall space, while keeping …

marula brunch club

Sunday funday #marulabrunchclub

Sun’s out, we’re out! Welcome to one of my favorite weekend festivities, girls brunch. After a whirlwind of prepping with Marula for a day of fun, we landed at The Corner, bathing in summer’s light window-side after that sun got just a twinge too hot to stay outdoors. With summer schedules in full swing, it’s nearly impossible to get the whole squad together, but the four of us were happy to enjoy a short escape from the rush. Cherish your friends! They’re your support group, cheerleaders, confidants, and partners in crime – and I don’t know what I would do without them. Many thanks to Marula for sending us on such a wonderful escapade to enjoy our afternoon together. Here’s the recap! photography:FRIENDS | camera:iPHONE 6 | hair products c/o:MARULA | hair extensions c/o:IRRESISTIBLE ME I must say, having a squad of super models can have it’s challenges ;) But one of the most fun parts of being girls is getting ready together for a night (or day) out on the town. Fully loaded with some incredible gift …

mamma chia snack review

grab and go mamma chia

Remember when you thought after college you’d be working a 9-5 and life would be so easy? Wrong. If only we knew back then what busy really meant. I recall the days contemplating the challenge of writing a 3 page paper over a weekend. Now I’m lucky if that’s all I have to do in a night after the office! I always knew life was motion, but who knew it was a freight train on high-speed. And to be honest, I wouldn’t change a thing. Somehow I still manage the time to graze my favorite fashion blog sites, travel bites and find inspiration at every corner. How do I make time for it all? Finding the little things in life that can shave off a few moments here and there, and resorting to habits that can keep up with my lifestyle. A new such discovery I’m loving for healthy living on the go – Chia Squeezes, by Mamma Chia. photography: KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | snacks for healthy living c/o:MAMMA CHIA Though I try to live a healthy lifestyle, balancing …
