light and night

Playing with contrast. Two things contradicting each other, yet existing side by side can be a truly beautiful thing. They say opposites attract. While I can’t always agree with that, there is something to be said for differences making everything a bit more interesting. Without one side, how could you truly appreciate the other? If you want to see the whole bunch and caboodle side by side, go to New York. There isn’t a type of person there you won’t find. And in fact… I love it. sunday morning

Stillness truly is a commodity one should treasure. And one of the few times it shows itself is during the first moments of the day. Though I’m not a proclaimed morning person (quite the opposite actually), once I manage to pry open my eyes, soak in the light, and indulge in my first cup of coffee – those moments that follow are actually quite pleasant when the day’s rush can be put on hold. The view of the city below keeps my mind wandering on dreams of the future and memories of days past. And weekends at home – don’t even get me started. My daytime wardrobe is lucky if it finds me. Lazy you say? Comfy, I answer. #truestory photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | bralette c/o:TRUE & CO | cuff c/o:MADELEINE ISSING | rings c/o:KINDLING & COMPANY | geo necklace c/o:KINDLING & COMPANY | hotel:W HOTEL Another great wake-me-up in the am – yoga. what happiness is made of

Hello, and happy Saturday. Had the most wonderful past weekend with an impromptu trip to NYC to visit a good friend. All 48 hours held every bit of bliss one could ask for – from city sights to tasty bites, complete with a luxury stay in Union Square’s W Hotel. Spending these better moments in life always brings to mind a thought: what exactly is happiness made of. Is it a formula of positive experiences combined in the right moments, soaking in the luxuries life has to offer? Is it something that can be created and re-created if the solution is found? I believe happiness is many things. But above all, it is a choice – the eyes through which you see the world, and spending it with those you love. Thank you friends, for just such a weekend. Will fill you all in on more details from the trip in later posts. In the mean time, all my wishes to each of you that your weekend and days to follow are spent in happiness. Apparently feeling all warm and …

just when things were getting interesting

Enjoyed a bit of unorthodox leisure time last week. Between checking off some of those dusty to-do’s and enjoying a couple evenings over a glass of wine (and by a glass, yes… I do mean bottle), I was also also able to catch the flick Kingsman. Antiquated as the concept may be, I can’t get enough of the gentleman = lethal spy plot. Guys, in case you haven’t figured it out yet – suits are to women, as lingerie is to men. We find it attractive when you at least look like you’ve got your sh** together. And really, if you can’t bear to get out of your stained collage T and torn jeans on occasion, just bear this in mind: you don’t wear it, neither will we. #yourenotthebossofme #unlessyoulooklikeone Something about leather pants aways does it for me. missing pieces

Made it through another semi-annual closet purging! #isurvived holy. crap. I have way too much stuff. Thank you to my girlfriends who helped migrate a few things into their own closets. As for the rest… Goodwill here I come. It’s always a good reminder to spend more on good basics, and ditch buying the froo-froo stuff. Better things last forever. (darn you TJMaxx and your seasonal sales… yeah I know, I’ll be back next weekend. sorry. love you.) Always finding the most incredible closet inspirations online, and can only dream of one day having nice enough (and few enough) pieces to organize it in such a way that I’d just as soon have a cocktail party in there as store my clothes. Guess I’ll just keep dreaming. In the spirit of basics, got down to the most simple (and never failing) combination. Black jeans. White T. You know those days you spend up to your last 30 seconds before you’re late for work trying on every single thing in your wardrobe with “nothing to wear”… Those last …

the current shape of things

Shaping up to be another beautiful week. Have a few new big projects coming up that I can’t wait to share with you all. Also had a bit of excitement in the office with the launching of our newest brand, Naked Feet. (or am I just excited because we got to drink champagne during working hours… hmm…) Only kidding (sort of), but for real – it was a well deserved few moments of celebration time for all the hard work our team has put into making this happen so yay!… alternate read: working nights til 2:00am, cold pizza for breakfast, enough stress to pop few new greys, and finally one flippin glass of bubbly to ease the pain. *cough cough We’ll be launching to the public in Spring 2016, so be sure to stay tuned! In the mean time, I’ll be slipping you sneak peeks from the shoot like these. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANON 5D MARK III | blouse:FOREVER21 | culottes:FOREVER21 | shoes:NAKED FEET | bucket bag c/o:MS. day in my dreams

Took a dive, started on a whim, and ended up being one of the most incredible adventures I could have asked for – Happy 1st year anniversary to day in my dreams. The experience is beyond what I could ever have expected it to be, and you have made it that. Thank so much for supporting me from the very beginning through this first year. Your encouragement and inspirations have not only kept me blogging, but also brightened many days in my own personal life, like a close group of friends along for one of life’s many journeys. Having this opportunity to take something that is a passion and inner release for me, and being able to share that and interact with so many incredibly talented people, brands, and companies – is something I will be forever grateful for. I feel truly blessed. Also, feeling a bit cheesy (but truly want to know how grateful I am for each of you) after this extended speech – so let’s get back to it shall we? Thought it appropriate to make …

nior

Black… like my heart. (just kidding) But on a serious note, do you ever dress according to your mood? Sun is shining: all-white and some killer shoes, on a good day, my hair will also get combed. Overcast: black and reaching for the sweaters, even if it isn’t cold. Going to the beach? I just might wear a splash of color (don’t quote me on that). It’s like I need the outward me to reflect whatever the day will bring. Maybe I should wear more light colors to keep me in a good mood? hmmm… #foodforthought… nah. Today, partly cloudy with a chance of let’s-go-out-and-have-some-fun. Feeling like a badass in all black by Dead Legacy. This knit is so soft, I don’t plan on crawling out of it in the next foreseeable future. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | sweatshirt c/o:DEAD LEGACY | skirt:NASTYGAL | crossbody:FOREVER21 | jewelry:FOREVER21 | shoes:MADELINE | nail laquer c/o:INTENSAE All the details from Forever21… Yes – I’m fully aware that 21 has long since come and gone. But I couldn’t resist stocking up on …

say you’ll remember me

Walked into the grocery store this weekend to the welcoming aroma of freshly brewed, pumpkin spice latte, only to discover on my way out that it was actually perfumed pinecones… who came up with this madness?! While usually apprehensive of the changing of the seasons (hey fall fans… did you forget that WINTER comes next??)… this year I actually find myself quite ready for the cool morning air. Feels like a fresh start every day. Plus, I have been eying my growing stack of knit sweaters that I’m dying to get into. So much so, that I would actually feel a bit deceitful if I did not also share with you, that I am currently wearing said sweater – even though outdoors should reach the mid-eighties today. Hey – it’s cool in the air conditioning. #dontjudge White after Labor Day? Bring it on. (I just realized all of my paragraphs begin with “W” today… weird) Wearing a new top from Danice Stores that was a total steal, and layering on the white for fall transition. Fashion rules are made to …

relax, we’ll be alone here

One of the biggest challenges in fashion blogging has been finding just the right place to shoot. I do not reside along side a European cobblestone pathway, nor do I have the sandy beaches and palms of CA with crashing salt waves in my backyard (or even remotely nearby). Virginia is home. And blogging doesn’t bring home the bacon (I do love bacon). I work 8:00-6:00+ at my big girl job. So a typical shoot involves me dashing out the door scrambling to find a blank wall before the last light has disappeared (thank you summer sun, you’ve been the best). To discover this solitude place of cold symmetry – I was in stone heaven. Wearing my newest pair of jeggings from Denimocracy paired with a Mango oversized shirt. This was from my first order with Mango, and I must say, I like it a lot. The shoot itself was a multi-tasker. These photos will also be used to promote our new shoe line AXXIOM. Focused on budget friendly comfort presented in a simple way – this brand …
