this time last year

This time last year, I was a different person, but weren’t we all? Just like the unremitting flux of the seasons, we continue to shed our leaves and go through stages of dormancy, change and regrowth. Yet somehow, part of us always remains the same, the core of our being, who we are, always were, and will always be. This time last year, my hair was darker, complexion lighter, and my skin had fewer scars and freckles from life’s undertakings. But physical change is a part of nature, and no being is excluded from it’s irrevocable effects. It’s a blessing to have been given the opportunity and time that these signs of weathering were born from. This time last year, I had gone through fewer heartbreaks, hurts and struggles. But had not yet had the opportunity to learn from them, and grow stronger instead of harder. It’s important to embrace both the wonderful and seemingly inconvenient and regrettable junctures in life – which is the place we often learn the most. This time last year, …

one last romp

Fall’s chill is setting in. You can feel it even on the sunny days, a ghost hovering between you and those familiar summer rays. But alas, so many ravishing rompers and so little time… so I’ve stretched the season for one last romp of flashing legs and bare shoulders before they’re tucked away ’til next year. The romper that couldn’t be tucked away just yet – a gift from my babes at Premonition. Remind me I need to write a proper review on them at some point. My closet is literally filled with their pieces, and they’re my first thought when looking for something that’s high fashion, reeks of good design, and yet somehow manages to be perfectly understandable and attainable to a general audience. They’re literally the Mecca for my occasion wear style. I wore a beaded dress from their new collection to WWDMagic (shhh… it’s not out yet) and I can’t tell you how many people inquired on the dress. Stay tuned and I’ll be sure to show you a glimpse of that …

can you say cashmere

Soft, simple, and luxurious. Those pieces you run your fingers over in the store just to feel a couple moments of the texture grazing your skin. The sweaters you pull over your hands just to feel a couple more inches of comfort. That extra layer in your gloves that keeps all the little pinkies cozy against winter’s wind. That sweater that you’ll be living in for the next 6 months before spring returns. That gift you can just keep giving, because no one can ever have enough. You know what I’m talking about. Cashmere. And with the holiday season fastly approaching, it’s something that’s been on my mind, so I’ve partnered with Grana to tell you a story – the story of cashmere. And not just any cashmere, Mongolian cashmere, sourced from inner Mongolia where it is carefully combed, scored and spun for the softest knits that we all yearn for this time of year. If you’re preparing yourself for the winter weather, checking off your Christmas list, or just curious to know how cashmere …

fall’s last fight, the sun sets and the season changes

The sky is buttery cream, blurring softy with the tree tops. Flashes of gold flicker between the branches, and through the window one can hardly imagine the forbidden cold that lies just on the other side of the glass. The waters glow like crystalized roses, fading into grey as it slowly disappears over the horizon. The sun sinks a smidge more, and the golden trees transform into dark shadows against the intensely glowing sky of pinks, orange and gold. For a flash, all colors become vibrant, one last hurrah before the sun retreats for the night. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | felt hat c/o:LULUS | knit dress c/o:LULUS | sherpa vest c/o:LULUS | velvet pumps c/o:LULUS Grey, quiet, stillness. Dusk folds over the earth, a foreshadowing of the season to come. The crisp chill of the morning past is pushed away and replaced with a haunting cold. The motion forces leaves from their branches, fluttering to the ground in defeat. Solders lost in the fight of the season’s bitter sweet transformation. Darkness. …

from the other side

Hope everyone survived Turkey day with nothing worse than food commas and pumpkin pie overdose. Gotta love a holiday that centers around over-eating. Seriously. I love it. And couldn’t have had a better weekend with a full house  of loved ones and record 65 degree and sunny afternoons. Finally, one year I don’t dread the post-turkey trot with frost icing over my face. #gobblegobble So yeah, coat weather… not such a big fan – sweater weather, that’s a whole other story. Who wouldn’t love cozying into this oversized knit from French connection (another TJMaxx find!) and wide leg trousers from Parker Smith. Why is it that the best denim always comes from California? Californians, I’m officially jealous of your cotton loving, jean weaving state. I must come visit you. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | knit:FRENCH CONNECTION | wide leg trousers c/o:PARKER SMITH | timepiece c/o: THE FIFTH | rings c/o:K D’Angelo Designs | ear cuffs c/o: BOUTIQUE MINIMALISTE New timepiece from The Fifth. don’t blink

Because some days really are too good to be true. Three years ago, I had never been to NYC. Now, both work and pleasure have since brought me back dozens of times, and the city’s soul has now become a more familiar place to me.  (Though I must admit, I have yet to master the subway system) #helpme The city is truly full of endless adventures and possibilities. This morning’s mission was one of the most urgent nature, and hardly accomplished in time to avoid a complete catastrophe… but just when I had almost given up hope (frantic, two blocks away from where my search began)… there it was, tucked in the corner of a busy intersection, and almost in arms reach…  the one answer to every problem. Coffee. Yeah, it’s like that. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | knit:FOREVER21 | ombre joggers c/o:PARKER SMITH | loafers:NICOLE | stack rings c/o:K D’Angelo Designs | location:W HOTEL UNION SQUARE Dress in NYC is almost a formula. just when things were getting interesting

Enjoyed a bit of unorthodox leisure time last week. Between checking off some of those dusty to-do’s and enjoying a couple evenings over a glass of wine (and by a glass, yes… I do mean bottle), I was also also able to catch the flick Kingsman. Antiquated as the concept may be, I can’t get enough of the gentleman = lethal spy plot. Guys, in case you haven’t figured it out yet – suits are to women, as lingerie is to men. We find it attractive when you at least look like you’ve got your sh** together. And really, if you can’t bear to get out of your stained collage T and torn jeans on occasion, just bear this in mind: you don’t wear it, neither will we. #yourenotthebossofme #unlessyoulooklikeone Something about leather pants aways does it for me. The elephant keeps walking as the dogs keep barking. Something they don’t teach you in business class. This adage from India came from my partner in crime, and I will continue to keep the words in heart. With the growth of success, comes an onslaught of negativity. And no, I’m not talking about constructive criticism that helps you grow. I’m talking about the truly nasty, nonfactual, and unprofessional based nagging and manipulation of situations with seemingly no purpose or cause. You’ve probably worked with a few such people in your life, and if you continue to grow in a path of success, you can probably expect a lot more. While the spirit’s first reaction may be to reflect the attitude, the best advise I’ve received: The elephant keeps walking as the dogs keep barking. The fact of the matter is, you’ll never be able to train the dogs. Instead, an elephant walks steadily through the streets, seemingly unaffected by the barking around them. Focus on your goals and how to achieve them. The rest around you, is just noise fading away. photography:KUNDAN …

where we go

Our world is forever moving, and the places it takes us are a mixture of beauty, excitement, sadness, joy, and the unexpected. Life wouldn’t balance without a little of each. I find it best to accept all with a sort of reverence to the bigger picture, which our minds are so often incapable of comprehending in the moment.  This week has been a blur of each, as I say goodbye to two of my dearest friends. (no, they didn’t die). Their lives are taking them on beautiful adventures! And I couldn’t be more excited for the new opportunities they’ll experience with a change in work and new surroundings. So proud of you guys… but seriously… did you both have to leave in opposite directions in the same flippin week?? #youleftmeallalone jk I’ll be visiting soon. And to my friends that remain, I’m sorry but you’ll be experiencing an increased dose of me in weeks to follow. With the addition of fall setting in, I’ll be searching for life’s little comforts. On the east coast, it’s been sunny and 75 …

missing pieces

Made it through another semi-annual closet purging! #isurvived holy. crap. I have way too much stuff. Thank you to my girlfriends who helped migrate a few things into their own closets. As for the rest… Goodwill here I come. It’s always a good reminder to spend more on good basics, and ditch buying the froo-froo stuff. Better things last forever. (darn you TJMaxx and your seasonal sales… yeah I know, I’ll be back next weekend. sorry. love you.) Always finding the most incredible closet inspirations online, and can only dream of one day having nice enough (and few enough) pieces to organize it in such a way that I’d just as soon have a cocktail party in there as store my clothes. Guess I’ll just keep dreaming. In the spirit of basics, got down to the most simple (and never failing) combination. Black jeans. White T. You know those days you spend up to your last 30 seconds before you’re late for work trying on every single thing in your wardrobe with “nothing to wear”… Those last …
