’tis the season, a tragic love story

It’s here. That cold that licks your bones and laughs as the deep chill spreads like liquid nitrogen through your veins. The warm glow from the holidays disappears like a candle being snuffed out, leaving nothing but darkness in its wake. And, though the earth’s orbit tells us daylight has just begun to extend itself once again – Us creatures of the sun know now begins the longest days of the year.  The frost has burned itself onto every surface, and the living seek refuge underground where a hint of earth’s warm heart can still be felt.  And now, there’s no escape. We are trapped here, with borders closed and restrictions barring us from warmer refuge. Where will we run to now? Home. They say home is where the heart is, but mine longs for rays of sun penetrating my icy cold flesh with heat rays of welcome embrace. I long for the sea and the sounds of birds and dancing trees.  The elements are unchanged. The air is still here, but the warm breeze …

we’re a new breed; we’re ready for winter this time

The rain fell steadily behind the glass. Though the wind was as still as it was from indoors. The sky, dark, as was the unlit room. Days have gotten shorter. The sunlight, fighting for control of the shorter days. Fall has arrived, and with it, a hush of silence as we prepare for our first cold weather season in a post-Covid world. photography:MAMMA | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | lace dress c/o:MAGALI PASCAL | vegan leather dress jacket c/o:DAVID LERNER | pebbled leather pouch c/o:STATUS ANXIETY | shoes c/o:NAKED FEET Something about it feels quieter than before. Like the stillness resounds louder off of closed city doors. If ever we were urged to stay home, now is the time we consider, that might not be such a bad thing. Bears hibernate through winters, saving their energy for the more habitable months. As we continue to adapt to a new normal, we consider what the new season will bring. Trapped, alone, scared. The memories of summer past remind us of just how much has changed in …

positive lifestyle changes since Covid-19

In light of the word’s upheaval during the Covid-19 pandemic, I wanted to share some positivity during a time of struggles. In no way am I making light of the tragic series of events during this crisis. However, I find that the flood in my inbox and news channels of live updates and notifications are the best resource for appropriate guidelines and safety measures. Here on Day in my dreams, I hope to share something with you that’s inspiring to make a positive moment out of a dire situation. My heart goes out to all who are suffering. For those looking for a silver lining, here are 10 positive lifestyle changes I’ve experienced since the Covid-19 crisis. My hope is to inspire you to make positive changes in your life as well, and learn to grow and adapt in a time of crisis. 1: I’m working remote Working in pajamas, better snack options, no interruptions during chaotic deadlines… How many of you have wished for and begged to work remotely? For many of us, that …

don’t blink

Because some days really are too good to be true. Three years ago, I had never been to NYC. Now, both work and pleasure have since brought me back dozens of times, and the city’s soul has now become a more familiar place to me.  (Though I must admit, I have yet to master the subway system) #helpme The city is truly full of endless adventures and possibilities. This morning’s mission was one of the most urgent nature, and hardly accomplished in time to avoid a complete catastrophe… but just when I had almost given up hope (frantic, two blocks away from where my search began)… there it was, tucked in the corner of a busy intersection, and almost in arms reach…  the one answer to every problem. Coffee. Yeah, it’s like that. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | knit:FOREVER21 | ombre joggers c/o:PARKER SMITH | loafers:NICOLE | stack rings c/o:K D’Angelo Designs | location:W HOTEL UNION SQUARE Dress in NYC is almost a formula. With such a variety of places one might wind up, it’s best to be …

Black… like my heart. (just kidding) But on a serious note, do you ever dress according to your mood? Sun is shining: all-white and some killer shoes, on a good day, my hair will also get combed. Overcast: black and reaching for the sweaters, even if it isn’t cold. Going to the beach? I just might wear a splash of color (don’t quote me on that). It’s like I need the outward me to reflect whatever the day will bring. Maybe I should wear more light colors to keep me in a good mood? hmmm… #foodforthought… nah. Today, partly cloudy with a chance of let’s-go-out-and-have-some-fun. Feeling like a badass in all black by Dead Legacy. This knit is so soft, I don’t plan on crawling out of it in the next foreseeable future. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | sweatshirt c/o:DEAD LEGACY | skirt:NASTYGAL | crossbody:FOREVER21 | jewelry:FOREVER21 | shoes:MADELINE | nail laquer c/o:INTENSAE All the details from Forever21… Yes – I’m fully aware that 21 has long since come and gone. But I couldn’t resist stocking up on …

baby blues

Quicky cell-phone post just because. Rarely one for color, but something about these washed out tones I find totally do-able. Showing off one of my favorite timepieces from Fjord. Definitely a musthave for an almost-minimalist wardrobe. photography:THE COLEY COLLECTION | camera:iPHONE6 | skirt:ZARA | kicks:NIKE AIRMAX | timepiece c/o:FJORD TIMEPIECES | cool sketch:BELLALAIKA   Highlight of the week, Instagram friend @bellalaika who happens to be an extremely talented sketch artist – posted a piece of art she created from one of my original posts! How cool is she. Seriously. Check her out. You can see her sketch below in the top right corner… or check her out directly @bellalaika Plus a week in instagram – I love when the whole square just works. have a scentsational week

Good morning friends. 6:39am EST, and I’ve been lurking about my house for the past couple of hours. A new habit of mine that presents itself during nights at random… Insomnia. And I’ve got to admit… I love it. Before you assume I’ve gone completely mad (which is probably the case)… It happened first when I was under a particular amount of pressure from my big girl job. So much to do, so little time. My body was so angst, it fought sleep until I conceded around 3:30am. Instead of allowing those bitchy jittery feelings pulse through my horizontal being, I got up (brilliant) and began trudging around the house, catching up on laundry, freelance projects, pending to-do’s, and yes – even the blog. Those few extra hours were surprisingly mad productive (apparently the zombie version of myself has exceeding work ethics) – and by my “usual” morning time, I felt so accomplished; the strain of the day had vanished. And a day began with a positive outlook and a clear mind, made tackling that extra load at the office a breeze. Plus… with nothing left needed to …

whispers of the past

Welcome inside the famed Khajuraho temples of central India. The Chandela dynasty to be specific, between 950 and 150 AD. A hidden grove of ancient architecture, famed in darkness for it’s reputation of erotic sculptures lining it’s walls. I went in slightly braced, and hugely curious. What I discovered, was a beautifully enchanting retreat that had a way of encompassing one with feelings of unchecked fantasy and whispers of the past. Its sculptures were much for focused on that era of everyday lifestyle, war, peace, rulers, etc than that of a suggestive nature. Only small segments on one of the over 20 temples, displayed any form of sexuality. Though what they did show… they showed a lot. Like everything. And some pretty weird stuff too… So on that note, let’s move on to fashion shall we? Disregarding the previous insights, India has actually an extremely modest nature throughout. So wardrobe options in 90 degree weather were limited. May I advise loose, breathable clothing should you venture there. The leather crop I’m wearing here was super cute and flattering with the flowing culottes. However,… it …

some days can be classic

So this wardrobe combo isn’t particularly in my preferred choice of adorning myself. Though nothing is inherently wrong with it. In fact, I find it to be a quite pleasant combo – it’s just not very “me”. The shoot was for a corporate project for one of our brands, Nicole Shoes. Classy, sophisticated, homey. I tend to lean towards modern, minimal, and even a bit cold. So needless to say this left me feeling a bit froo-froo by the time we wrapped the day up. Many times in the fashion industry, one has to become flexible with adopting a unique persona for the brands or items they will be representing. And to be quite good, one must actually put themselves aside and “become” that person. After all, if you want to convince someone else, you’re going to have to be convinced yourself! Which can leave one feeling a bit like a disorientated chameleon. Blogging, I’m refreshed to find to be the complete opposite. Here, one has the freedom to express yourself fully, completely, and unconditionally. The clearer version of yourself you become, …

fall in florida

Finally got around to sorting through the photos from my recent trip to Florida to visit Nick (my big brother). Allow me to be mushy for a moment – my family is so important to me, and I love them to pieces! I have two brothers, and I am so happy to share that we are truly best friends. Moving on (as you roll your eyes) it’s wonderful to get away to a place that’s still warm and able to bake your skin at this time of the year. And it was a great excuse to get one more wear out of some summer favorites (though let’s not lie, these slides are going to be worn until my toes freeze off). Things I wore that I didn’t photo – shorts, boring tank tops, and more slides. Don’t judge me, it’s the beach. I was on vacation. And if you’re in the Tampa area, allow me to recommend Miguel’s Cafe if you’re in the mood for some hearty Mexican brunch. What is Mexican brunch… think Mimosas, …
