finally a mascara worth rebuying | bite upswing mascara review

The dark, soul piercing stare broken only by the soft beating of luscious eye lashes – that natural wing from the perfect curl fanning out towards the tips of perfectly manicured eyebrows. Lashes captivate us. Mascara, not so much.

After being underwhelmed by mascara since the not-really-that great pink cover girl tube, I knew it was time to find a new love. Yet, tube after tube was thrown away in bitter disappointment.

They clumped, the made your eyelashes fall out, they left panda circles under your eyes by 5pm, or they just didn’t really do anything at all.

When Bite Beauty sent me one of their first types of Upswing full-volume mascara, I was skeptical to say the least. No doubt they are masters of lip scrubs, liners, glosses and lipsticks alike. And they’r’e made with clean, natural ingredients we can all trust.

But what does a lip beauty brand know about mascara?

Needless to say, it took me weeks before I even bothered to give it a try. But alas, after my most recent disappointment finally reached the end of its sorry life, I broke out the Bite Beauty Upswing tube that had been tossed in my “maybe later” beauty drawer.

Was I ever wrong. Bite Beauty Upswing mascara is the mascara I had been waiting for all along. They nailed it.

So what’s so great about it?

Aside from the glossy rose gold tube and tasteful packaging, there’s a lot to love about this beauty discovery.

Let’s start with the brush. The brush has a sort of hourglass shape, which made little sense to me at first. However upon applying the mascara, I found it to be quite useful in grabbing the ends of my lashes while I focused on the center connection of the brush. Genius.

One layer, beautiful. A natural, yet more than barely there layer that made my lashes pop with just a few strokes. Two layers. BAM. That full luscious set of lashes, that Lord only knows I didn’t get from birth.

No clumps. No missed coverage. And I didn’t have to brush through a million times to make sure I had coverage on each of my sparse lashes – the applicator did that for me.

So how did it last throughout the day? I work an 8am-5pm, and aside from a couple minor wipes in the office bathroom, the mascara was fairly smudge free. I’d give it a 4-star rating in this category, only because combined with my fairly oily moisturizer and complete lack of bottom eyelashes, it did shadow a bit by the end of the day.

But, with a light dab between office and cocktails, my mascara held through the rest of the night. And, unlike other mascaras, it wasn’t a beast to wash off that night, dissolving easily with warm soapy water or a cotton swap and makeup remover.

Overall not enough that I was dissuaded from use. In fact, I just purchased my second tube, which is what inspired me to write this Bite Beauty Upswing mascara review.

A great mascara is hard to find, but Bite Upswing gets a 4.8 star from me, putting it at least a few stars above my last several tubes that were beyond a waste of the plastic tubes they came in. Thanks for spreading your wings (and my lashes) Bite Beauty.

I guess you’re more than just lip masters after all.
