Black… like my heart. (just kidding) But on a serious note, do you ever dress according to your mood? Sun is shining: all-white and some killer shoes, on a good day, my hair will also get combed. Overcast: black and reaching for the sweaters, even if it isn’t cold. Going to the beach? I just might wear a splash of color (don’t quote me on that). It’s like I need the outward me to reflect whatever the day will bring. Maybe I should wear more light colors to keep me in a good mood? hmmm… #foodforthought… nah. Today, partly cloudy with a chance of let’s-go-out-and-have-some-fun. Feeling like a badass in all black by Dead Legacy. This knit is so soft, I don’t plan on crawling out of it in the next foreseeable future. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:NIKON D90 | sweatshirt c/o:DEAD LEGACY | skirt:NASTYGAL | crossbody:FOREVER21 | jewelry:FOREVER21 | shoes:MADELINE | nail laquer c/o:INTENSAE All the details from Forever21… Yes – I’m fully aware that 21 has long since come and gone. But I couldn’t resist stocking up on …

what’s your sign

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” Luke 21:25-26 Something about the moon and stars have always captured me. Staring into the light of the softly lit globe of stone just makes me feel… different. There is a bigger power that moves through our universe, and looking to the sky seems to strengthen that connection. The night always frightened me a bit growing up, so perhaps it’s also learning to embrace your fears and somehow becoming something else in the transition. Not alone in my fascination, I spent hours wandering Jantar Mantra in Jaipur, India on my most recent trip. It was fascinating to see how people have tried to interpret something so beyond our world. I don’t believe in the catchy phrases and predictions …

a tether keeping me there

In a place inescapable, and not wanting to leave. Welcome to one of the many wonders of the world, Natural Bridge. Deemed the “Bridge of God” by the Indians who discovered it, this archway was carved from the seemingly still waters that run through it’s gateway. Whether it was the contrast of shade beneath the bridge, or the cool blue of the water’s reflection, my breath felt hot against the stone, like an earthen beast lurking in the dark in search for prey. ….ooor maybe I just felt like a bad-ass wearing laced leather shorts and killer sandals. Either way, it made the adventure all the more exciting. Which, by the way – I was able to enjoy with dad and bother visiting for the weekend. If you ever find yourself in VA, this place is great for an all-day of play with trails along the bridge, a semi-large zoo, and the deepest caves on the East Coast. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III |  top:VINCE | shorts:NASTYGAL | gladiators:OTBT | pendant and chain c/o:SILVER MOTH And if you can appreciate beauty that takes time, …

have a scentsational week

Good morning friends. 6:39am EST, and I’ve been lurking about my house for the past couple of hours. A new habit of mine that presents itself during nights at random… Insomnia. And I’ve got to admit… I love it. Before you assume I’ve gone completely mad (which is probably the case)… It happened first when I was under a particular amount of pressure from my big girl job. So much to do, so little time. My body was so angst, it fought sleep until I conceded around 3:30am. Instead of allowing those bitchy jittery feelings pulse through my horizontal being, I got up (brilliant) and began trudging around the house, catching up on laundry, freelance projects, pending to-do’s, and yes – even the blog. Those few extra hours were surprisingly mad productive (apparently the zombie version of myself has exceeding work ethics) – and by my “usual” morning time, I felt so accomplished; the strain of the day had vanished. And a day began with a positive outlook and a clear mind, made tackling that extra load at the office a breeze. Plus… with nothing left needed to …

iced coffee

Summer!!!…. ok you’re right it’s still spring. But it’s on it’s way dammit. And one of the most anticipated treats of the warmer season -iced coffee. Sure I like the hot stuff, but something about that roasted nutty flavor on the rocks… noms. Keepin it fresh and clean for the new season. Realizing I need to trade these dollar store shades in for some wayfarers, but in the mean time – enjoy the $1 fashion. Which, by the way, is a needed reminder that money doesn’t buy style, and brand names don’t make an item hot. Wear what you like, and stay true to your style. Because you look amazing if you feel amazing. photography:KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | funnel neck:NASTYGAL | pant:EXPRESS | slides:NICOLE

whispers of the past

Welcome inside the famed Khajuraho temples of central India. The Chandela dynasty to be specific, between 950 and 150 AD. A hidden grove of ancient architecture, famed in darkness for it’s reputation of erotic sculptures lining it’s walls. I went in slightly braced, and hugely curious. What I discovered, was a beautifully enchanting retreat that had a way of encompassing one with feelings of unchecked fantasy and whispers of the past. Its sculptures were much for focused on that era of everyday lifestyle, war, peace, rulers, etc than that of a suggestive nature. Only small segments on one of the over 20 temples, displayed any form of sexuality. Though what they did show… they showed a lot. Like everything. And some pretty weird stuff too… So on that note, let’s move on to fashion shall we? Disregarding the previous insights, India has actually an extremely modest nature throughout. So wardrobe options in 90 degree weather were limited. May I advise loose, breathable clothing should you venture there. The leather crop I’m wearing here was super cute and flattering with the flowing culottes. However,… it …

fly away with me

Happy New Years Eve! By far the most anticipated holiday of the year for me… not because one has to wait the longest for it to arrive, but because everyone needs fresh starts, new goals, and a new mantra to live by. For the past several years, I’ve always thought out one phrase that I really want to Post-it note to my mind through the following year. Cheesy I know, but it helps me stay focused and driven to accomplish (not so much a goal) but a new way of seeing things. Last year, overwhelmed with 70+ hour work weeks, a plethora of personal life chaos, a lot of life changes, etc (you get the point, we’ve all been there)… my mantra for 2014 has been, “Striving for perfection is in vain. Instead, succeed in making progress.” -me ;)  Because when you take on the world, sometimes it’s a bigger bite than we can handle, but piece at a time – you can really accomplish anything. This past year through those struggles, some life-long goals have been accomplished, and …

running from waves

One more day by the sea. Though the mornings were beyond crisp, the afternoons were perfection with a light breeze and 70’s sun. Just enough to bring out more freckles on my face. I’m still in denial that they’re actually sun spots. I knew it would be much too cold to get in the water, so I opted for some knit Bermuda shorts (that I’m absolutely obsessed with) and a jacket. Needless to say, they were both wet by the time we departed. I just can’t resist the salty goodness. Also noticing I’ve put my slides through a lot, time to shop for a replacement pair! photography: KUNDAN KUMAR | camera:CANNON 5D MARK III | fleece:NASTYGAL |  slides:NICOLE

cold beach hot coffee

Just returned from the most lovely trip to VA beach which I visited for a shoot (more on that later in the year) Spent the extra down time on the beach of course. First day was a balmy mid-70’s type day – perfect for strolling along the sea. The second day (which these photos are from) was FREEZING. Nastygal fleece and Starbucks came to the rescue, so sorry you’re going to see this jacket twice. I believe in packing light. However, I couldn’t resist being that tourist that regardless of the season, had to jet to the beach at 7:00am to catch the sunrise – even through the shivers. Bonus of a cold beach is that we had it all to ourselves! It actually made for quite a charming morning. Though my photographer may have disagreed… Wearing a new shop for the first time called BlackFive. I was apprehensive to order due to mixed reviews online, however the entire lot I purchased from them (and I did purchase a lot) were fantastic! Good quality for …

pumps before utility

Just got back from a short hop in Florida to visit my brother. My flight was delayed on the way… by 6 hours. 6 HOURS. The gate attendants offered all of the stranded would-be-passenger’s pizza for their long-suffering. How kind. Don’t get me wrong, who would be cross at them – they’re not in control of the flight. To the angry people shouting at the poor girls… go to h***. And keep your mouths shut, you’re making the poor girl cry. And learn to relax. However, do remind me to never fly Allegiant again. (enough of my rant) Well the good news is, I had plenty of time to dally, so Instagram became my best friend of the day. Sorry if I over blasted you guys with posts on that front. Just know you were a part of the bigger picture saving of my sanity. (if it’s not already too late for that) OOTD: Sorry had to use the very impossibly cliche acronym. I just learned what it was… at the airport… during my 6 …
