’Til 2022, a deep desire for “less” has continued to well up in my being. Perhaps partially driven by a complex, heavy world around us. Simplicity is uncomplicated peace, and excess is no more than baggage. I’ve applied this not only to a more capsule approach to my wardrobe, but throughout my home and life as well. It’s become easier and easier to let go of the baggage that builds up with time, and more and more rewarding as the piles of unneeded disappear leaving more time to kick back and enjoy what you have. Not only in things which are material, but also in matters of the mind. We are a generation of over thinkers. Of excess, and emotional weights we carry with us throughout our lives. It has a high gloss, transparent surface much like it’s plastic cousin. You may have heard of it more in its most dense form, plexiglass. While it’s hard to imagine plexiglass being used for shoe material, perspex is actually comfortable enough. It has the texture of a heavy-duty vinyl or synthetic leather. Sun’s out, we’re out! Welcome to one of my favorite weekend festivities, girls brunch. After a whirlwind of prepping with Marula for a day of fun, we landed at The Corner, bathing in summer’s light window-side after that sun got just a twinge too hot to stay outdoors. With summer schedules in full swing, it’s nearly impossible to get the whole squad together, but the four of us were happy to enjoy a short escape from the rush. Cherish your friends! Daylight Savings is just around the corner, and who’s worried about not getting a good night’s sleep? This week has been another firecracker with a busy work schedule and St. Patty’s day festivities off to an early start. My office calendar is exploding with color-coded tabs, and while I should be getting some extra zzzz’s to stay on top of my A-game, sometimes the after-party is too good to resist. I’ll sleep when I’m dead. Or at least, maximize my time when I am awake. They key to functioning at the speed of my digestive system after devouring corned beef, cabbage and a few pints of beer?… a great night’s sleep. Contrary to popular belief, it really is possible to squeeze in a great night of re-charging between even the most overlapping plans. How to manage? Back where we started, and doin’ just fine. Change is in the water, and the water feels right. The sky is pale, and the faint smell of my packed sandwich is somehow suffocating. The train is in motion, and it’s moving fast – goodbye NYC, the journey back to where it started begins. The mood? Calm. Still like the water in the windless exterior on the other side of the glass. Out there it’s deceivingly cold, with only a faint chill creeping through the window sill. Song on repeat: Frenship’s Capsize. 8 hours left to go and I’ll once again be home. Catching up on notes from the week, sorting through holiday photos reliving time well spent. Giving in to the journey set before me, today and for the years to come.
