So in my last blog post, we talked about the little white dress creeping up on the trend board with the classic lbd. But to be fair, the conclusion was less than decisive, and black continues to dominate my wardrobe with white being a close runner up. In this episode, we’ll pay tribute to that classic thing that we all love and adore, the little black dress: the cotton edition with Grana. From ultra comfy-casual to a night out on the town, here are three ways to style that oh-so-comfy lineup of black cotton dresses in your wardrobe.

Style number one: super casual in a black cotton maxi dress

Nothing says relaxed summer afternoon like a black cotton maxi dress. They’re classic, comfortable and chic, and perfect for a variety of activities. This dress by Grana is beautifully fitted and has a side slit and slight racerfront design for a casual-sexy twist. For this first look, you can easily achieve a super-casual summer style. For an afternoon of brunch and walking around outdoors, pair your cotton dress with an ever-popular straw hat of the season and a 90’s choker. Straw hats are great for outdoor summer activities, and it keep the look light in the summer’s heat. The simple slides and modern bag keep the look minimal and fresh.

Style number two: semi-casual in a black cotton tank dress

For the second of three ways to wear cotton dresses, wear it western and semi-casual. Long enough for the office but short enough to be cool outdoors, this cotton essential looks great paired with statement accessories like a western Brixton hat and double-horn necklace. Since cotton dresses are super basic, it’s fun to play with accessories to dress them up or down depending on the occasion. The chunky earrings and studded back give that little bit of edge needed to keep you from looking too sweet. And though the breathable cotton and airy style are enough to love – my favorite feature of this dress is the pockets. Yes ladies… pockets. This semi-casual styling is great for business-casual office attire or a day of errands around town.

Style number three: sexy night out in a black cotton t-shirt dress

Dress it up! Who says you can’t wear a cotton dress for a night out on the town? I deliberately choose the seemingly most casual Grana cotton t-shirt dress for this look to show the versatility possible with paring your otherwise casual pieces. Layering pieces is a fun way to show off the creativity of your style. For this night-out look, I’ve layered the super soft t-shirt dress with an edgy corset for an immediate transformation of style. Corsets and corset belts are a great accessory to layer over basics for an unexpected twist. They key to making cotton edgy – take risks. If a corset isn’t bold enough, pair them with statement jewelry like these over-size cross earrings, over-stacked rings, statement shoes like these studded Wang boots, and a killer bag.

For styling cotton dresses, the sky really is the limit. They’re such a great staple piece to have in your wardrobe, and I’ve hope you’re feeling inspired on more ways you can wear cotton dresses besides slipping them on and running out the door (though that’s a great go-to as well). You can also wear them under silk slip-dresses for a notable “I’m into fashion” statement, with a leather biker jacket for a bit of an edge, or just by itself for a totally relaxed, minimalistic style.

When choosing your cotton basics, go for a silhouette that you feel can transform into the most looks for your lifestyle. Also, choose quality cottons that won’t fade or deteriorate after washes (because trust me, you’ll be wanting to wear them a lot). Love working with Grana when it comes to choosing styles by quality materials. Their cotton pieces are super soft, stretchy and easy to maintain. You can find all three of these cotton dress styles on their site and more! Also a huge fan of their silks and collection of modern, classic basics. Be sure to check them out!
