I was first reviewed Typology a few years back when this French beauty brand made their official launch into the U.S. Clean, natural ingredients and beautiful packaging? What’s not to love. 

When I saw Typology launched a natural ingredient makeup line, my interest was immediately peaked. 

French beauty products with all natural ingredients and the perfect glow–Typology sounds almost too good to be true.

I’m convinced that the most radiant beauty starts with a healthy diet that leads to healthy skin, and avoiding harsh chemicals such as soaps and cosmetics. That being said, I am not opposed to some subtle enhancement. The fresh, dewy skin flashing across my phone featuring the Typology tinted moisturize had enough allure, I had to give the new products a try.

After regularly testing the products myself for the past couple of weeks in a variety of lighting, I have come to my conclusions on the results of the makeup review.

All that was left was a final scourge of the ingredients before each product could be ranked in my mind, worthy of purchase or not? Did Typology find the perfect blend of science and nature?

Here’s what makes Typology makeup unique, after doing a deep dive into each product’s ingredients to discover just how natural is Typology makeup?

95-99% naturally derived ingredients–I’m guessing that’s a huge improvement compared to your average cosmetic brand.

Does that mean Typology makeup is good for your skin?

Some ingredients I’m quite familiar with (like vitamin C, squalane, aloe and peptides) and have many benefits for your skin. Not all ingredients are listed for all of the products, so it is difficult to tell just how much of the active ingredients are contained in each product.

I found the percentage of natural derived ingredients reassuring, along with this following statement from Typology:

“…we comply with the stringent European regulations for cosmetics, which already ban over 1,300 ingredients. But we’ve also decided to go even further, refusing to use many ingredients that are legally authorized, so we can reassure our customers and guarantee their safety.

When we select our natural active ingredients, we give priority to those that come from organic farming and are produced using gentle extraction techniques, without the use of controversial solvents.”

At the very least, the ingredients which are really bad for your skin should be safely excluded. This natural French beauty brand is also formulated 100% in France, with a research and development lab based in Paris where the team works with in-house engineers, a formulator and chemist, as well as with chemists across the country.

Now the part you’ve been waiting for, how did the brand stand up after reviewing Typology makeup vs. traditional cosmetics?

The tinted moisturizer in Typology makeup vs. traditional cosmetics covered as well (or better) than traditional lightweight coverage, but without the harsh and unnatural ingredients. 

Here are the results after trying Typology tinted moisturizer, lip tints and the rest of their natural ingredients cosmetic line. Initially, I was really excited to try the tinted moisturizer and lip oils for that classic dewy French look. The Typology ad sold me with flawless moisturized skin and a rosy glow. 

Applying with my phone for a mirror, I was quickly excited with the results as the tinted moisturizer lightly covered uneven skin tone and toned down the sun spots.

The concealer brightened my eyes and the lip oil was the perfect amount of tint to moisturizer with a dewy finish applied to the cheeks.

Changing to regular lighting with an actual mirror, you could still tell I was wearing makeup. (The photo above shows the finished outcome with a drop of the tinted moisturizer against my skin for color comparison.)

While it wasn’t as heavy as a look as other skin coverage products I’ve tried, I wouldn’t expect that photoshopped finish that every woman would love to achieve. But the truth is, that’s probably a pretty unrealistic expectation from any cosmetic product. 

My favorite product by far: the Typology bronzer.

Typology bronzer was the magic serum I’ve been waiting for, with almost no visible signs of makeup and great lightweight coverage. 

For the Typology bronzer review, I tried typology’s tip: mixing a couple drops of the bronzer, a couple drops of the tinted moisturizer, and a couple of drops of my own daily moisturizer. I gently massaged this mixture over my whole face and I was truly surprised at the results. Not only was the coverage as good as the tinted moisturizer alone, there was almost no visible signs of makeup.

The bronzer made my skin look like it had a healthy couple of days in the sun with an all-over bronzing effect – minus the overly-metallic finish found in so many bronzers. 

I used the bronzer alone just under the cheek bones for a bit of shaping, and finished with a dab of lip oil on the apples of my cheeks and lips. 

The final look, a warm rosy natural glow that added literally no time to my morning moisturizing routine. It was all I had hoped for since first discovering the new collection Typology makeup.

The glow drops added the perfect highlight for a more dramatic evening look, paired with a few coats of the Pea Peptides mascara.

The collection also boasts a green seaweed extract color corrector, brow gel and mattifying loose powder for those who prefer a dryer finish.
