It’s hard to imagine the end of summer is already here. But for perhaps the first time in my life, I’m looking forward to the crisp air and the return of fall fashion.

The longer I work in fashion, the more of a minimalist I’ve become.
Passing through phases of maximalism and needing to drop unspeakable amounts on new collections each season- I’ve learned what I will actually wear. And what I won’t.
Yet, it’s still all in fun to add a few new pieces into my wardrobe each season.
After watching the runways and drooling over NYC, Copenhagen and Paris streetstyle for the past several months… how could I not.

The fitted, knitted maxi dress
The return of 90’s fashion didn’t just bring back platforms and chunky slides. They brought back a form of elegance as well. This season a fitted, knit maxi dress is “unavoidable” according to Glamour. Elongating, versatile and office appropriate, It’s a timeless investment you can wear for years to come-and currently reaching fire status in this seasons trends.

Knee high boots
If you’re wondering about boot height this season, it’s all about the knee high boot. Or higher. But the knee high has a bit more utilitarian feel that makes this investment piece fashionable and practical to wear over denim and leggings or under suiting and paired with fall dress.

Cargo pants
Another nod to the 90’s you’ll be seeing cargo pants coming into fall. Still not ready to revert back to everyday skinnies, cargos balance out a straight frame, they’re super comfy, and work well with any array of fitted tops and bomber jackets. They’re an effortless look that’s on trend and ok for casual Fridays at the office.

Oversized button downs
Currently in route to my closet, the new pinstripe blouse by Anne Fontaine. Oversized blouses are a key piece for fall and you can wear them with literally anything for a look that’s off duty chic that can take you from office to beachside. Pair with wide leg leather for day to night. Or biker shorts for errands and off duty vacation style.

Tailored suiting
A trend that will never die, it’s never the wrong time to invest in suiting. And the time has never been more right then now. With unexpected combos like crop tops and trousers and blazers over just about everything… you will never regret the amount of wear ton can get out of the right suit set. Focus on fit to maximize versatility based on the looks you want to pull together with your pieces. Oversized and boxy for me please.

A elongated mini bag
Still on my wishlist, an elongated mini bag gives your outfit that confident touch that says I know fashion and pills basically any look together. Bonus points if you’re brave enough to opt for a pop color.

Ribbed tanks
If you haven’t already invested in ribbed tanks, please stop putting it off. They’re the perfect layering piece with suiting, skirts and your at home loungewear. And invest in a couple of nice ones. You’ll get your wear out of them. Remember, fashion is what you were at home just as much as anywhere.

A Balaclava
Call me crazy and this might be a fashion stretch for some… but I’ve been hankering for a balaclava the more I see them in runways and streetstyle. These hooded neck warming “hats” have been featured everywhere this season with a real intriguing sort of edge. Plus, they’re super practice as it starts to get cool for outdoor events like games and bonfires.

Statement chain
Thanks to hours of shopping for my Econ shop, I already have my statement chains for the season. But if you don’t have yours it’s time to invest. The beauty of it. If you find one that really suits your style, it’s the only real piece of jewelry you need to accentuate all of your looks this fall. Ok maybe that and a couple stackable ear cuffs and gold rings.

Leather layers
I hesitate to add this category – not because I don’t think it’s relevant, but because a staple leather jacket is an all season, every year essential. (Perhaps its own article coming soon). Having said that if you somehow don’t own a leather jacket, it’s as multifunctional as ever and absolutely a staple for fall.

With these fall trend essentials, you can mix with your wardrobe essentials in style all season with countless combinations and creative layering. Shop wisely and you’ll be adding these fall pieces to next years essentials.
Here’s to the new season. Fashionably yours, xoxo
