The rain has been incessant on the east coast, a pelting torrent of cold darkness. There’s not a soul who could combat the chill in the air. But fear not, the Dr. is in town. Dr. Marten that is, sweeping street style by storm in every outfit combination from evening couture to 90’s grunge. The allure? Dr. Marten’s signature combat boots have been around for ages, and the return of 90’s youthful rebellion has brought the style back in full swing, namely with their more recent update of the Jadon 8 Eye Boots.
A fresh take on the classics, the Jadon 8 Eye Dr. Marten boots feature a “bouncing” rubber sole platform that give them an extra 1.75” in height. Featured on Shopbop in full sizes, “Form meets function on these classic Dr. Martens combat boots in luxe leather with the brand’s patented AirWair soles for comfort and slip resistance.” – Shopbop
After dedicating hours to drooling over 2018 fashion trends with these boots across Pinterest and Instagram for weeks, I finally ordered this pair during Cyber Monday, and have since worn them on rotation a couple times a week. Well worth the investment, here’s a little breakdown on my experience with the Jadon 8 Eye boots by Dr. Marten, and links to shop the look.
Dr. Martens Jason 8 Eye Boots fit
Let’s first talk about fitting. Shoes can be difficult to order online, and these combat boots were no exception. I wear anywhere from a 6-6.5US, which normally puts me at around a 37EU. These Dr. Marten platform boots are only available in whole sizes – that means no 6.5 options. Since I usually order larger for boots to allow for socks, I was hesitant to select the right size, but decided to follow Shopbop’s fitting guide and went with my smaller size 6 selection. Very happy I did, as the boots were a perfect fit, and felt a lot more like a 6.5-7.0 at any rate. I can slip mine on and off without unzipping the inside zipper or unlacing, a huge perk for me for effortless wear.

The thick platform sole
Unlike the classic Dr. Marten style, this updated silhouette features a 1.75” platform, made with a durable rubber sole with plenty of traction. Please note, while rubber is chic and utilitarian, it does make the boots slightly on the heavier side. This isn’t something that affects me, but it’s worth noting if you’re planning on running a marathon.
Signature style features
The Dr. Marten Jason 8 Eye boots have a thick, golden welt stitch that breaks up the solid black and gives them a workwear accent that fits perfectly into 2018 and 2019 fashion trends for the season. The pull tab in the back has the same golden accent boasting their signature “bouncing” rubber sole. The boots themselves are crafted with smooth, heavy-duty black leather and round cotton laces, giving them the traditional combat look we’ve all come to love.
What to wear with Dr. Martens
Where will you let the good Dr. take you? The best part of the Dr. Marten boot trend is their versatility. Not only are they an affordable luxury, they’re comfortable for all-day wear and can be styled with just about anything. If you’re looking for outfit ideas, be sure to check out my dedicated Pinterest board with dozens of inspired outfit ideas from graphic t-shirts and mom jeans to plaid essentials, teddy coats, leopard print and everything in between. Dr. Martins have a sort of London Underground, vintage rebellion vibe – so get creative and be original with what you wear.
For this look, I’ve paired my Dr. Martens with a silky leopard print dress and teddy bear overcoat topped off with a bus boy cap. The bright oranges in the dress make the stitched welt accent really pop, and the heavy duty teddy makes this look more practical for the cold weather season. Once inside, the outer layer sheds for a day-to-night look that can take you from street style to queen of the night.
The platform Dr. Marten Jason 8 Eye boots are substantial, so don’t be afraid to pair them with extra chunky pieces that balance the rubber lug.
Who’s wearing Dr. Martens?
Not sure if you’re ready to re-live the 90’s trend? Don’t just take my word for it. Some of the hottest celebs from Haley Williams to Gigi Hadid have decided that this trend will never die. In fact, even the city that never sleeps couldn’t resist this combat style with NYCFW spilling over with runways and attendees alike rocking the trend.
