rough on the edges

Studies say it takes us only 7 seconds to generate our initial opinion of another person. 7 seconds! Think about that for a minute. That individual standing across from you has spend years learning and growing, seeing the world from completely different eyes. They have seen loss, and overcome challenges. They have had victories, and lost battles.

They have lived stories that no other person in this world could tell. And yet, we are so confident in ourselves, that we have the audacity to sum them up in the same amount of time it takes to inhale a gulp of coffee? My word – we are truly pretentious creatures.

And let’s not forget that we’re not the only ones judging. Rest assured that your onlookers are developing those same opinions about you! And while those impressions are all but completely out of your control, it is your choice to let those 7 seconds define you, or to live the life you’ve created for yourself. The method to my madness: embrace the inner beauty of yourself, and those around you. All the time. How much better would the world be if we saw people for who they truly are on the inside, not how they are perceived by our first glance. Inner beauty always shines through, but give it a chance to radiate eh?

While embracing your inner beauty, let’s also not forget to be beautiful inside. Inside our clothes that is. I first discovered True and Co. from a Facebook ad (yes marketing people… they do work). I was intrigued enough to check them out, and made my first purchase a year ago.  Their motto:

“Confidence begins with a great fit. Why limit yourself to “size” when your beautiful body is made up of so much more?”

If you’re like every other women in the world, you probably often struggle with knowing exactly what is your proper bra size. And don’t even get me started on in-store bra sizing… What do you mean a A??? I wore a B last week and it fit just fine!!! Are my boobs SHRINKING??? haha jk #butforreal #wtf

True & Co creates an account for you based on your measurements (not your size) and not only tells you the size you SHOULD be wearing, but also shows you a range of bras that fit perfectly to those measurements… even if they are alternate sizes. Just got this new set and I’m in love all over again.

Felt like throwing off my typical b&w ensemble with a splash of blue to match the clear fall sky. Got this jewel from Micha. Hey, gotta bling it up every once in a while right? I don’t wear statement jewelry often, but when I do, I always feel like it adds a lot to the overall look.

In other news, rocking another case from Felony – this one in their smoke marble design. They just got it in a darker shade too… I want both!

A special shoutout to a fellow blogger Hearts & Crafts, who’s working on launching a fashion line. She sent me this Fabuleux T as a gift, so be sure to support your blogger community and check her out. Her site is a thing of beauty.

Thoughts drifting to the upcoming weekend. It’s almost Halloween! And I didn’t even make a mention… Oh well, perhaps next time around. Here’s to hoping no one is making their 7 second impressions while I’m in my pancake costume. #thatsnotreallymycostume #butnowimhungryforpancakes #noms

  1. Choosing the right bra size is not a nice experience experience ever. I am glad that there is a company trying to make this struggle a bit easier for women.
I think it is sad to think about how judgmental our society has become. I can’t wait until humanity will make a conscious shift to becoming less hollow.

  2. Ooh, I love your thoughts about how we easily become pretentious creatures by summing up another person’s whole being in seven flaky seconds. And as always, I just love how you keep your look stripped down to the vital basics and never ever look ‘basic’ hehee. I like the way True And Co. defines ‘size’ as we all have our own unique sizes and we must learn to embrace this instead of trying to fit ourselves into the annoyingly varied ‘sizes’ on clothing labels that are out there! ;)
